The best way to travel is by public transport
Southie is a residential area in Boston that has more pubs per square foot than you can shake a stick. It also happens to have one of the finest stretches of beach within the city. Carson Beach has a family-friendly and relaxed atmosphere, unlike the party-loving crowds that flock to M Street Beach on hot summer days. You can also walk to the east end of Southie to find Sullivan’s Castle Island (aka “Sully”). This seafood restaurant, which dates back to 1951, won a James Beard America Classics Award in 2025. Carson Beach offers a variety of amenities, including a lifeguard station, picnic area with grills, a playground, and restrooms equipped with showers. It’s easily accessed from the JFK/UMass Red Line station, but the real move here is to take the 7, 9 or 10 buses from downtown down East Broadway and get off at I Street—that way you can grab sandwiches from American Provisions Before you head down to the Southie beach, take a look at this classic Southie experience.
