On Location Here’s a look behind the curtain of some of your favorite movies, TV shows, and other media. This time, the question is where was Amélie filmed?

Amélie captured our hearts when the eponymous movie was released in 2001. The enchanting tale of Amélie Poulain introduced international audiences to a lonely girl with an active imagination.

After losing her mother to suicide at the age of six, Amélie’s father withdraws from society, and she leaves home in search of her own story, becoming a waitress at the Café des 2 Moulins in Montmartre, one of Paris‘ most picturesque corners.

What follows is a zigzag through Parisian streets as Amélie seeks out the wonder of an old metal box that reveals itself behind her apartment wall, with the initial help of her reclusive neighbour, Raymond Dufayel and a newfound commitment to performing good deeds.

Before the nostalgic UK and Ireland release to mark the 25th anniversary of the movie, we revisited some of the key sites around the charming neighbourhood of Montmartre, now popular among die-hard fans of the flick—inspiring ourselves, in the process, to wander the streets of the 18th arrondissement on more magical adventures.

It wouldn’t be an Amélie-inspired tour of the City of Light without stopping by the real-life café Audrey Tautou’s character worked in. Found in Paris’ buzzy Montmartre neighbourhood, the hideout still draws in fans of the movie eager to walk in Amélie’s footsteps. It’s a popular café and bistro, especially among tourists heading to the Moulin Rouge for a spectacular show, where live music rings out on weekend evenings and menus feature classics such as gooey croque monsieurs and steak frites.
