    The Hedges Inn opens in East Hampton, New York today

    • The Hedges Inn will reopen its doors on May 16, under a new owner. This boutique hotel in East Hampton has 13 rooms as well as an apartment with three bedrooms.
    • Andrew and Sarah Wetenhall, owners of The Colony Hotel Palm Beach, purchased the inn from the previous owners in March. Since then they have made some minor improvements to the historic property.
    • Swifty’s Restaurant will have an outpost at the inn, serving refined American cuisine.
    • The hotel offers a beach butler, bicycles and a bar with stocked provisions.

    Andrew and Sarah Wetenhall: the couple behind the buzzed about reinvention The Colony HotelThe March 2025 acquisition of a new hotel by, has expanded the hospitality portfolio at. The Hedges InnA boutique hotel with 13 rooms in East Hampton will reopen on May 16 for the new season.

    The hotel, originally founded in 1873 by John D. Hedges, was built as Caroline Isabella Homan’s gift. The hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it occupies an enviable position between East Hampton’s Main Street and Main Beach.

    “Our goal is to create a warm and welcoming environment where guests can immerse themselves in the quintessential East Hampton experience—where tradition meets luxury and community and connection thrive,” Sarah Wetenhall said in a press release shared with Travel + Leisure.

    The Wetenhalls purchased the hotel in 2008 and have since made only minor improvements. However, they plan to do more after the summer. The Hedges Inn also has a three bedroom private residence to accommodate extended stays. This option is larger and offers more privacy. It still provides the full Hedges Inn service, as well as a Volvo.

    Swifty’s is located in the heart of The Colony, a second location of the popular New York City restaurant. Swifty’s closed in 2016, but was revived in 2019 at The Colony. Swifty’s will open at The Hedges Inn as a 100-seat full-service indoor/outdoor restaurant, seven days a weeks, for breakfast, dinner, and lunch.

    Swifty’s signature dishes will be prepared by executive chef Tom Whitaker using local ingredients, such as Montauk Shellfish. Braun Seafood, Balsam Farms, Catapano Dairy FarmWines from Wölffer Estate.

    Swiftys will offer a variety of desserts and drinks.

    The Hedges Inn guests will be able to access beach butlers and electric Volvo EX90s to get around town. Ahab, the texting concierge (named after East Hampton artist Jackson Pollock’s dog), is also available. The Hedges Inn offers a variety of community-minded programming, such as trivia nights, beach bonfires and the “Conversations at The Hedges” speaker series, which is inspired by East Hampton’s literary roots.

    The hotel will remain open until Labor Day. The Hedges Inn’s nightly rates start at $1,499 and you can book online. thehedgeseasthampton.com.
