As I have lived in the UK for a while, I’ve come to realize that my friends don’t just want to see me. They also want to experience the British culture. And when I say British experience, I mean clichés and all. When my friend from New York When she stopped by on her journey to a destination marriage in Portugal, I decided to make this trip extra special and embrace all things British. I was searching for a property that would be rich in history and true to Georgian architecture, which Bath is famous for, but also conveniently located within the City. I searched online for a long time before I found Through the Ages Plum Guide has a website. The photos revealed a stunner of a Georgian flat—spacious, airy and a mere 15-minute walk to the Roman Baths. It was booked for a weekend at the end of September.
We arrived at a sunny and brisk morning on Friday, eager to start our adventure. Bridgerton dreams. Parking at Charlotte Street Parking (seven minutes walk) was the first step before walking to our lovely weekend home through the green streets of Bath. The third-floor apartment was easy to access, and we were amazed at how wonderful this homestay really is. High ceilings and tall sash windows let light flow throughout the space—this created a true sense of openness and movement within the apartment.
This holiday’s decor was a nod to 18th-century elegance. It may have seemed dated but it was just what we needed. Glamorous, old-timey design—think beaded fringe lamps, Fabergé-style eggs, cast-iron fireplaces—I’m sure you get the idea. I love finding objects from centuries past. What is my favorite feature of the house? The large windows that overlook Bath’s Royal Crescent. We listened to music and drank wine while watching the activities on the Royal Crescent green. It was wonderful to bask in the sun early in the morning with a hot cup of tea.
Two bedrooms are available, the smaller one looking out over the green. Vintage wall lights illuminate the room and it has a luxurious bed. The bathroom is equipped with a large tub and all-marble. The main bedroom features paneled walls and high ceilings with massive windows that overlook a tranquil garden. The center of the bedroom is a king sized bed with soft pillows and luxurious bedding. The bedroom I was in had a bathroom en suite and a fireplace. The lofted area of the room allowed you to add another bed if you needed more space for your child. The perfect way to begin our weekend. The birds were chirping and the light was pouring in my room on Saturday morning despite our uncharacteristically cool September. The rest was spent strolling through Bath and exploring its history. There were also honey-hued, independent shops lining the streets. restaurants. Even a Jane Austen Festival While we were there. We were able to fully enjoy the rental because of its location. It was so easy to get to and from the center. We experienced a few problems with the water heater, and the team quickly responded. We so enjoyed staying at Through the Ages that we’re considering making this a yearly trip—and no doubt I’ll happily pander to my friends’ need to experience this side of the UK every year…but only if I get to stay here.
