Top Amenities Italian marble bathrooms with 24-hour fitness centre, curated artwork
In order to not be outdone in the high-end market, the Dorch unveiled her biggest renovation for three decades, with two floors of newly designed rooms and suites. The hotel that Elizabeth Taylor signed at Cleopatra contract in the bath remains out-and-out fabulous—but with a Pierre-Yves Rochon uplift. The Artists’ Bar has a mirror ceiling, Lalique crystals that girdle the bar and Liberace’s mirrorball baby grand. The Artists’ Bar is where you can enjoy caviar, oysters from the local area, and Petal Head Cocktails (Stoli Elit Vodka, kumquats, Aperol and passionfruit) on a trolley.
Martin Brudnizki’s Vesper Bar, with its smoked-glass and scalloped chairs, invites intimacy. The spa is a pink and girly paradise (for Dr. Uliana’s medical-grade face treatments). The Grill by Tom Booton, a fun slice of British culinary theater, has a fresh menu; don’t miss the squid bolognese à la Koffmann, given the tick of approval by Pierre Koffmann himself. The suites are decorated in the colors of an English garden: leaf green, heather, and rose. If Hôtel Plaza Athénée is the American fantasy of Paris, then this Park Lane dame’s rooms are the American fantasy of Britishness—one we are happy to buy into. —L.B.
