Every year, nearly 5 million visitors The breathtaking views of Grand Canyon National Park—many arriving during the heart of summer. Grand Canyon Lodge was the only lodging in the park on the North Rim. It and several other buildings were consumed by wildfire on July 13th, 2025.
In addition, the fire forced the closure of the inner canyon corridor trails as well as the campgrounds. Officials haven’t yet stated when access to the park will be restored.

A lightning strike in Grand Canyon National Park caused the fire to start on July 4. The fire, which was contained at first, grew quickly on July 12 evening due to the 20 m.p.h. winds. The wind gusts reached up to 40 m.p.h. According to reports by the Associated PressThe fire spread by almost eight times in one day. It has now consumed more than 70 structures including historic cabins, housing for employees, administrative offices and visitor facilities.
Grand Canyon Lodge was built on the North Rim in 1928. It was destroyed in 1932, and then rebuilt in 1937.

The fire is being suppressed aggressively and fully. According to the press release of July 13, “Fire behavior remains very active due to hot temperatures, low relative humidities, and strong wind gusts”.
Wildfire.gov states that the fire is not contained and has spread over 8,570 acres at the time of this publication.
