- Travel experts agree that midweek flights—especially on Tuesdays—is typically the best option for cheaper airfare and fewer crowds.
- Modern pricing algorithms have made it so that there is no “best” day to book a flight.
- You can also save 20 percent by shifting your trip by a few days.
You have carefully planned your trip and all other aspects of your stay. But now, you’ve just got to book your flight—and you naturally want to know the best day of the week to fly.
For a great deal on airfare—which usually equates to the “best” time to fly—is the middle of the week, according to all the travel pros.
Travel expert and point.me Tiffany Funk, cofounder of the search engine for award flights, says:
As for the best time to book Funk advises booking those flights whenever you want. She says that there is no ‘best’ time to book flights. This myth dates from the time when airline employees manually typed out and posted fares. The airline revenue management team can now preprogram triggers for fare changes and triggers to be triggered based upon purchasing trends. There’s no reason to wait until the evening of Tuesday or any other day before booking your flight. You can lock in a great price if you see it.
Laura Lindsay is the global trends expert for travel search engine Skyscanner, agrees. She says that midweek flights are usually cheaper than weekends. “However every trip is different and it’s possible that the flight you want won’t follow the trend in terms of pricing.”
Lindsay recommends Skyscanner’s Price Alert, which will help you track airfares and notify you when they drop.
Skyscanner data reveals the cheapest day of the week to travel—not tp book, but actually fly—is Tuesday,” she adds. “That is still only an average.” These hacks are not only different depending on where you’re going, but they also vary by month.
Jesse Neugarten is the founder and CEO at Travel Subscription Service. He explains why midweek flights are usually cheaper. Dollar Flight ClubI had some thoughts. He said that “fewer weekend and business vacationers” are flying. Airlines lower their fares during these days in order to fill the seats that would otherwise be empty. You can save up to 20% by shifting your trip a day.
Book that perfect midweek flight and extend it to a long weekend. You deserve it.
