- The Urban Cowboy Lodge, located in New York’s Catskills, has added new amenities and offerings since purchasing Slide Mountain Lodge next door.
- The newly rebranded Urban Cowboy Lodge & Resort now has 44 rooms, including two standalone houses, each with a full kitchen and four bedrooms.
- The property has also added new features such as a tennis court, an arcade, shuffleboard and a pool.
The 28-room hotel was built in 2006, almost six years after it opened. Urban Cowboy Lodge The property, which is located in the Catskills of New York, has expanded onto 200 acres adjacent to the former Slide Mountain Inn at Oliverea. Now both properties form the new-and-improved Urban Cowboy Lodge & Resort—with a bridge over Esopus Creek connecting the resort.
We’ve always planned to expand. Lyon Porter is Urban Cowboy’s cofounder. “Rather than build, instead we chose the adjacent resort,” he said. Travel + Leisure. “When I purchased the lodge I met Ralph Combe. [owner of Slide Mountain Inn], and said, ‘Hey, if you ever want to sell, let me know first.’ We want to honour everything they’ve accomplished.”
There are 44 rooms in total. Two of them are standalone homes. One is the four-bedroom Opa’s Cabin with two baths and a kitchen. Another is the five-bedroom Slide Mountain Haus with two baths and a similar kitchen. Porter stated that these are perfect for sharing with friends or families who want their own space. They also have a kitchen. “It’s a totally new room type.”
The new rooms feature Pendleton blankets, robes, and wood-plank wall decor in a chalet style. Also featured are custom wallpapers and fixtures as well as hand-picked vintages. “We are not undertaking a complete renovation. Porter explained that “we’re leaning on what is already there and creating an affordable price for the room.”

Urban Cowboy now includes six miles of hiking trails. Guests can enjoy lounging at the 40-foot pool, playing tennis or shuffleboard and enjoying the new shuffleboard and tennis courts. The new Ralph’s Bar & Bowling, named after the owner of Slide Mountain Inn, has mounted moose and deer heads, along with original woodwork. There is also a dancing hall, and casual fare such as burgers and french fries.
Porter hopes to continue to entice travelers from New York City and anyone else who is looking for a country break. “You can even see the Milky Way [from here]”There is no light pollution,” said he. “We’re increasing our outdoor activities, such as hiking and fishing.”
The property will host live music and DJs this summer.
