As Germany prepares to host the UEFA Champions League Final on May 31, hotel bookings are increasing. According to data from SiteMinderBookings at local hotels for the period 29-31st May have increased by 32% in comparison to the same period of last year.
SiteMinder’s data further reveals that room rates have increased year-on-year in the lead-up to the final at Munich’s Allianz Arena, with the average daily rate (ADR) for stays during the period climbing by 10% to €265, from €241 last year. By contrast, the ADR in the preceding week was €56 lower, highlighting the spike in demand as the final game approaches.
The average booking lead-time has increased from 113 to 136 days in the past year. Meanwhile, guests have booked for an average of 1,57 nights in comparison to 1.83 nights during the same period last year.
“We saw the positive impact of hosting the UEFA Euros in Germany last year, and we’re pleased to see it is continuing with the Champions League. The Champions League offers valuable momentum at a moment when hotels have to navigate more complex market dynamics,” says Andreas Kastl, SiteMinder’s Regional Manager – DACH. “With thousands of fans – both local and international – preparing to travel to Germany to see who takes home this year’s trophy, hotels are encouraged to fully embrace dynamic revenue practices that respond quickly to booking demand, whether through pricing or marketing strategies. Hotels can take advantage of longer booking windows to get to know their guests and offer them exclusive offers before fans arrive.
Before the final matchup in Munich, the UEFA Champions League semifinals will be played on two legs between 29-30 and 6-7 may. Each of the qualifying teams is expected to host a game at their respective home venues across Europe. The venues will only be confirmed after the quarter-final results.
