London, UK – The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has revealed record-breaking data for Egypt’s Travel & Tourism sector, with 2024 marking the highest-ever contribution to the national economy, and 2025 forecast to surpass that record once again.
WTTC has released its latest Economic Impact Research According to the (EIR) developed in partnership with Oxford Economics in 2024, the sector is expected to contribute EGP 1,4TN to Egypt’s GDP, or 8.5%.
As we look ahead, the year 2025 will mark a new record with an annual growth forecast of 4,9% and an increase in the share of this sector to 8,6% of the national GDP. This underlines the central role of Travel & Tourism in Egypt’s continued economic development.
Visitor Spending Exceeds Pre-Pandemic Records
The year 2024 was also the best ever for visitor expenditure. International visitor expenditure increased by 36.1% from 2019 to EGP 726.9BN. Domestic visitor spending increased to EGP 449.9BN or 31.8% over pre-pandemic levels.
This upward trend is expected to continue. In 2025, the international visitor spend is expected to rise to EGP 768.2BN and the domestic spend is expected to be EGP 460.6BN. This will maintain the strong recovery of the country and demand for both local and international travel.
Employment Growth Exceeds 2019 Levels
The sector will support 2.7 million jobs in 2024. This is more than the peak of 2019.
The growth in employment is expected to continue. By 2025, the number of employees will rise to 2.9 millions, a 22.3% jump compared to 2019

The Decade of Growth
WTTC forecasts a decade of sustained expansion for Egypt’s Travel & Tourism sector.
By 2035, it is estimated that the sector will contribute EGP 2,1TN to the economy of the country, which represents 8.4% GDP. Employment will reach 3.8 millions jobs, or 10.5%, highlighting its critical role in creating new jobs.
Egypt’s tourism economy is set to grow to one of the most vibrant and sustainable in the world.
