    Silver Ray

    • The light, airy atmosphere on the ship puts the emphasis on what is happening outside.
    • Suites with private whirlpools and wraparound balconies.
    • Culinary program that brings the local flavors and drinks on board through menus and cooking classes.
    • Sustainable features include the use cleaner-burning LNG.

As I gazed at the Spanish city Cadiz, I danced around a large, resort-like swimming pool deck, as if it were the 1980s. The live British band played George Michael, Eurythmics and Tears for Fears as well as David Bowie. It was only then that I wished I’d packed larger shoulder pads.

When I took a break, it was for sips of complimentary Champagne because this was no high-end night club but rather a luxury cruise ship—one that offers all its amenities as part of the package.

You want your butler to bring caviar and all the trimmings for you? You got it. The butler even added a nice bottle of champagne. Or, you could ask for a trendy drink to enjoy with the endless views. Or you could ask for the surf and turf, embellished with foie gras—or get some fantastic vegan cuisine.

You can probably find your own version of decadence and excess on the Over-the-Top website Silver Ray, a ship with 364 cabins and a crew numbering 544.

It is a sister vessel to the vessel. Silver Nova, which will debut in 2023. Silver Ray Silversea’s luxury line is the operator of one of the world’s largest ships. Although it is a relatively small ship, the distinctive design highlights the stunning coastlines.

What’s your take on it? What do you think? Ray The ship is large enough that it doesn’t feel crowded. There are also places to escape and pretend to be on your yacht. The ship is full of beauty: there’s a beautiful pool on one side, dining areas that are open to the air, and plush fabrics.

I enjoyed the ambiance and the niceties on board during a four-day cruise to Portugal and Spain. Aside from the opportunities to indulge, this ship provides a more comfortable luxury cruise experience. Like DeBarge sang back in the 80s: “I Like It.”

    Staterooms & Suites

There’s no way to go wrong with any of the suites on offer. Silver Ray There is a butler and a veranda. Accommodations start at 301 sq. ft., which are large enough to feel like an elegant hotel room. They have a table with chairs on the balcony, a walk-in wardrobe, and either a glass-shower with a seat or a tub with glass. The minibar comes stocked with drinks, and the Egyptian cotton sheets are from Milan’s Rivolta Carmignani. There is also a pillow menu that includes hypoallergenic pillows. The best accommodations are the two Otium Suites with wraparound verandas of 421 square feet each.

    Bars and restaurants

    La Terrazza.

    Silversea Cruises

Free drinks and food are included in the pampering. Eight restaurants are available on board. Many are free but reservations are advised. La Terrazza’s new menu, featuring modern Italian cuisine, was very popular with me. The S.A.L.T. The Sea and Land Taste Restaurant (named after Silversea’s culinary program Sea and Land Taste) has a constantly changing menu that is tailored to the destination the ship is visiting. The menu in Cadiz was impressive when we visited that Spanish city. The Marquee, an open-air venue with a pergola and serving pizzas and salads is called the Marquee.

The S.A.L.T. The Chef’s table was a limited-to-18-guest tasting menu experience. Mine was 11 courses of exquisite bites such as a confit of piquillo peppers and salt cod topped with burnt onion, accompanied by the stories of João Sá, who has garnered a Michelin star for his Lisbon restaurant, Sála. Chef’s Table costs a lot more, but it’s worth it.

There is also a Japanese Restaurant, Kaiseki. La Dame offers a classic French Menu. You can also find out more about the following: A new tasting menu from French chef Jean-Luc Rabanel. Rabanel is known for his Michelin-starred gastronomy that emphasizes vegetables. It was odd that the menu served on board the ship had so much meat.

The S.A.L.T. The S.A.L.T. Panorama Lounge’s outdoor terrace is also a good choice. For a pick-me-up or quick meal, I really enjoyed Arts Café, which has perfectly foamy lattes and vegan tofu breakfast sandwiches, among other selections.

    Silver Ray Sails

Silver Ray In 2025, the ship is scheduled to spend a good part of its time in the Mediterranean, making trips ranging from six to sixteen nights. Many of these will visit the popular cruise cities Barcelona, Civitavecchia, near Rome, Lisbon, and Monte Carlo. The ship will head to Fort Lauderdale for the Caribbean season in 2026, before returning to Europe late March.

    Shore Excursions

The fares include shore excursions in each port. They are usually simple: a tour of a palace or a city centre. I selected a few of these extra-cost options that are included in the S.A.L.T. program. One of my highlights was a trip to Casal de Santa Maria in Spain, the westernmost vineyard on the continent. There, I sipped champagne and slurped oysters with Baron Nicholas von Bruemmer whose Latvian grandpa founded the place.

    Amenities and Entertainment

    The Silver Ray pool deck.

    Silversea Cruises

Two decks with open space and stunning views surround the chic pool deck. Everyone can find a comfortable lounge chair and there’s plenty of room to dance. At the Roman-inspired Otium Spa of the ship, I received a calming and energizing 4-technique massage. You can enjoy champagne between treatments in the spa and dips into its small hydrotherapy pool. I took a cooking course in the S.A.L.T. In a cooking class at the S.A.L.T. pastéis de nata).

A lively band fills the small casino of the ship. Jazz fans can enjoy small bites in the supperclub, which is accompanied by Cole Porter. And those who find shopping for vintage Hermes and Chanel bags Onboard you will also find entertainment options. You can watch dancers or singers in the two-story show room. There are also lectures.

    Offerings Family-Friendly

Silversea welcomes children as long as they are at least 6 months old. But the mood on board feels more adult. There is no kids pool, kids club or babysitting. Silversea has a number of connecting rooms, including two-bedroom Master Suites that can accommodate up to six people.

    Accessibility

Silver Ray There are four Premium Veranda Suites with wheelchair accessibility and two larger Silver Suites. Public areas on board are accessible. The crew is available to assist if ports require that passengers disembark via stairs rather than ramps. I also noticed braille signage in public rooms, staterooms, and in elevators—which is something not all cruise ships have.
