    Miraval Berkshires

    • Miraval Berkshires is named among the best U.S. spas hotels in T+L’s 2025 World’s Best Awards.
    • The resort is now a part of World of Hyatt and feels like an expansive Berkshires country estate. It sits on a 380 acre property that was designed by famed landscape designer Frederick Law Olmsted.
    • Rooms are designed with restorative rest in mind; the cloud-like beds—a Miraval staple—are the fluffiest I’ve ever slept in.
    • Exercise classes, animal therapies, meditation and more are all part of the health and wellness activities.
    • The package includes all meals, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. It also covers daily activities and gratuities, as well as spa access, transportation and gratuities.

In the midst of what seemed to be the longest winter in human history, I felt that I needed a rest. A breakup, dreary weather, and general burnout had me searching for a reset—and it came to me in the form of an all-inclusive wellness getaway in Massachusetts’ Berkshires.

Miraval Berkshires, a resort and spa in Massachusetts, is one out of three Miraval resorts located in the United States. Miraval Arizona was the first to open in Tuscon in 1989, while Miraval Austin debuted in 2019. Miraval Berkshires, the newest of the three Miraval resorts in the United States, maintains its holistic well-being philosophy that feels like an ideal middle ground among health-focused retreats. There is no rigidity in the wellness program, so you won’t feel confined to a schedule from sunrise to sunset or restricted in your food and beverage choices (there’s a bar and a variety of options for all palates). You can also eat cleanly at the resort if that is your style.

Daily activities—some included within the daily rate, some for an extra fee—include arts classes, workouts ranging from gentle to intense, meditation, hikes, and mental health–focused group sessions, inviting guests to design their own wellness adventure that meets their needs. It meant I did a lot more meditation than usual (including a silk-hammock sound bath), took a class to conquer fear, learned how to make pottery on the wheel, and had several workout classes. The Life in Balance spa was still plenty busy with treatments and relaxation.

It is hard to deny that the adults-only property in Lenox, Massachusetts, nestled into rolling hills, is serene. The hardest—but perhaps most restorative—part of my stay was adhering to the resort’s no-phone policy. Cell phones are prohibited in common areas. I was initially embarrassed by my habit of reaching for my phone out of habit rather than necessity. The policy is simple and forces you stay in the moment. By the time we returned to our endless emails, I was grateful for this.

A sign letting guests know where and when they can use their cellphones.

Miraval is a brand that has loyalists who visit every property. Some have been to the resort multiple times, and some even go there more than once a year. It’s not surprising that our readers chose the resort as one of the top domestic destination spas. T+L’s 2025 World’s Best Awards. I went in curious and left a convert; in the months following my trip, my mom (who joined me) and I kept commenting on how good we were feeling—body and mind. Whether it was from our chakras being fully realigned in a bespoke spa treatment or from  just devoting three days to doing things that made us feel good physically and mentally doesn’t really matter to me—it did exactly what I hoped it would do. I felt like myself again after my stay at the resort. It helped me get over the mid-winter slump and gave me a better appreciation for the power of a wellness retreat.

Here is my review. Miraval Berkshires.

    The Rooms

The property has a total of 121 rooms and suites, including carriage houses and cottages. Cottage rooms are connected to the rest of the main indoor areas—including the Harvest Moon Restaurant, Life in Balance Spa, and activity and exercise areas—so you don’t have to worry about walking outside if it’s snowing or raining. The cottage double queen room I stayed in had all of the usual hotel amenities, including a modern, simple feel, plus a Tibetan singing bell and meditation pillow. The best part of any Miraval room is the signature bedding, which truly feels like being swallowed up by a marshmallow—in the best way possible, of course. (The bedding has become so popular they now sell it, so guests can take a little bit of Miraval with them. Some rooms have balconies or patios. Accommodations at the Wyndhurst Mansion are elegant and have a different feel.

    Food and Drink

    Miraval Berkshires Resort & Spa

Miraval Berkshires is not a typical wellness resort. You may think of bland salads, restricted menus, and other things. The all-inclusive package includes food and beverages (including meals, snacks and coffees as well as smoothies). However, we will discuss a few notable exceptions below. All our meals were taken at the Harvest Moon Restaurant (main included restaurant) on property. The restaurant offers three meals per day with a choice of buffets, a la carte or nightly menus for breakfast and lunch. I had relatively low expectations before I arrived—all-inclusive resorts often have a reputation for serving less-than-stellar food—but I was very impressed by the ever-changing menus. We ate delicious food that was wholesome and flavorful. Many of the ingredients were sourced from local farms, producers, and cheesemongers. It might seem boring to eat at the same place every day, but we found that each meal was different and perfectly portioned.

The Roost is located next to Harvest Moon and offers lighter snacks as well as coffee, tea, smoothies and more. What could be better than unlimited matcha and lattes? Snacks, which include everything from granola to the best ever chicken salad, are available on the counter or in the refrigerator. We were blown away by the food, and didn’t have the opportunity to dine at the more expensive 1894 Restaurant in Wyndhurst Mansion. It is only open Friday through Sunday for dinner and comes at an additional cost.

Miraval Berkshires offers alcohol in its restaurants and bar. However, it is not part of the package rate. You can enjoy beer, wine, or craft cocktails, all of which are delicious. However, there are also plenty of other non-alcoholic choices.

Harvest Moon hosts will be able to assist you with making dinner reservations. This can be done in advance, or on the morning of the event.

    Activities and Experiences

The Challenge Course is just one of many outdoor activities.

Miraval allows you to create your ideal wellness experience. It’s based on your needs and interests. There is something for everyone. The variety of classes available allows you to exercise your body the way you want. These include hiking, yoga, barre training, high intensity interval training, Pilates and unorthodox classes such as cardio drumming. Mindfulness comes in many different forms. From beginner-friendly gratitude mediations to pottery classes, mindfulness is available through a variety of methods. Foodie classes include the Joy of Java which focuses on coffee, oysters and Champagne tastings. There are also fermentation classes. There are also group sessions on physical and mental wellness that address everything from love, compassion and navigating menopause, to coping fear. From astrology, tarot, mediumship, and past-life regression to chicken keeping and hatchet-throwing—there is genuinely something for whatever journey you’re on. Other amenities include a golf course, ropes courses, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, fitness centers, trails and more. There are a variety of classes each day, both paid and free (mostly between $50 and $150, but some may be outside of that range). You can also pay for private sessions.

The art studio offers guests the opportunity to engage in creative and artistic activities.

The activities can change according to the season, so it is worth checking out the website before you go. daily activities calendar You can also chat with an Experience Planner after booking to figure out which classes you want to sign up for. After booking your stay, you can chat with a Experience Planner to determine which classes you would like to attend. As classes do fill up fast, I recommend booking early.

It’s up to you how much you pack into your schedule. Personally, I tried to fit in at least one exercise class, one mindfulness activity and one other interesting activity each day. There was still plenty of room for relaxing and eating between. There is always room to add to your schedule. Just make sure you don’t arrive late for any classes.

    The Spa

The Life in Balance Spa offers a variety of treatments, from facials and massages to experiences unique to Miraval that include all five senses. Ayurveda treatments, Thai massages and reiki are available, as well as bodywork in pools of water or hanging silks. Salon and nail services are available, along with a prenatal menu. The spa is stunning, with coed relaxation spaces (including an indoor/outdoor swimming pool and hot tub), and gender-separated zones with steam rooms and saunas. We recommend booking early to ensure that you get your preferred treatment and time slot.

    Accessibility and sustainability

There are ADA-compliant rooms, as well as public areas such the restaurant, the pool, and spa.

All Miraval resorts have a shared commitment to sustainability. Miraval Berkshires can be found in Lenox, Massachusetts. Take advantage of our complimentary shuttle service from Bradley International Airport, Connecticut (about 90 minutes away), or Wassaic Station (about 70 miles away) if you don’t drive. In the coming year, the resort plans to discontinue Wassaic and provide complimentary transportation between the Hudson Amtrak station and the resort (about 50 minutes from New York City). I took Metro-North to Wassaic, which included one transfer. We met our driver there.

The resort can arrange a helicopter charter if you wish to arrive faster.

To schedule a shuttle, contact the transportation team 72 hours prior to your arrival.
