The 30-minute tour includes narration, which shares the history of this route and the sights that you will see along the way. You can also enjoy the nonstop views along the coast of Oregon and the thick coastal forest.
Upon arrival at your destination—be it Rockaway Beach or Garibaldi—you have 30 minutes to checkout local restaurants and shops or head to the beach before reboarding the train and returning to your starting destination. Travelers can choose a later departure time if they wish to spend more time exploring. Most trips take 90 minutes, including a 30-minute ride on the train each way.
Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad features both indoor and outdoor open-air cars. If you want to travel inside, choose between a “Coach Car”, which features cushioned seating and sliding windows. Or a Table Car, which includes tables and chairs for two and four seats with sliding windows. Outdoor car options include the “Covered Open Car”, which features bench seats with a roof, and the “Open Top Car”, which is equipped with bench seating but without a roof.
Only the outdoor cars are equipped with the ability to accommodate dogs and small pets like cats.
A wheelchair lift is located in the Garibaldi station. In order to reach Rockaway Beach, wheelchair users will have to board at Garibaldi Station and travel north. There is no lift in Rockaway Beach so wheelchair users will have to remain on the train for 30 minutes. Arrive at Garibaldi Station 30 minutes prior to the departure time if you require the lift.
Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad Tickets start at $24 for Children ages 3-12 and $32 for Adults. Infants and seniors are free. Online tickets can be ordered in advance. oregoncoastscenic.org.
In most cases, the train will be pulled by a steam locomotive over 99 years old. However, a historical diesel locomotive may occasionally replace the steam locomotive. At checkout, the locomotive type will be noted.
