It’s important to choose your seat carefully if staying connected to the Internet during a flight is a priority.

LDShop, a gaming-top-up platform, revealed that Wi-Fi speeds can vary greatly depending on your location on the aircraft. Travel + Leisure. To communicate with the cell towers, most aircraft use satellite-based Internet or air to ground systems. Both methods struggle to evenly distribute Wi-Fi signals.

Faye Hwang from LDShop’s business development department said that people don’t realize how their choice of seat can affect their Wi-Fi. “Knowing how these systems function gives you an edge when booking your next trip.”

Hwang claims that the fastest WiFi speeds are usually found in the middle of the plane near the rows aligned to the wings. This is because Wi-Fi equipment is usually installed on the fuselage’s roof.

The window seats in this area receive an even stronger signal, as they are located closer to external antennas.

Hwang suggested that you should think of it as being close to your router at home. “The closer to the source you are, the stronger the signal. Middle cabin passengers usually experience up to 20 [to] “30% faster speed than the front or rear.”

The number of Wi-Fi users is another important factor. The signal can be sluggish if there is a lot of activity nearby. You can improve the situation by turning off automatic updates for apps and closing background programs that sync data constantly. Due to thicker walls, and equipment surrounding them, emergency exit rows can also have slower Wi-Fi.

The internet upgrade may not solve all the problems: although travelers have access to higher bandwidth, they still use their old equipment.

Choose your seat carefully if you are an occasional traveler. Hwang stated that the middle cabin will benefit you more than an expensive upgrade. “Selection of a seat is just as important as timing.” I always connect in the first hour following takeoff, when there are fewer passengers online. Avoid peak usage periods like during meal service, when everyone is bored and reaches for their device.”

Airlines across the United States have been advised to take this advice. introducing free onboard Wi-Fi. JetBlue and Delta Air Lines offer free connections already, American Airlines plans to roll it out next year You can also find out more about the following: United Airlines has been slowly adding the perk Its aircraft.
