The team explained that “Europe emerges a top destination, especially post-pandemic. Countries like Spain, Norway, Netherlands and Estonia offer a robust infrastructure, visa policies favorable, and paths to citizenship.” The report highlights Europe’s efforts to attract highly skilled workers via comprehensive digital nomad programmes. The report shows that nine out of ten top destinations to live and work as a digital nomad are in Europe.

The report stated that, “Of 65 jurisdictions, 3 grant direct citizenship to digital nomads for the time they spend in their country (Spain Netherlands and Czechia), whereas 15 offer pathways to residency, leading to citizenship.” This is important for those with weaker passports who can use the digital nomadism strategy to obtain a second nationality and improve their international mobility.

The team that created the report said that it “dived into the rising trend in international digital nomadism, and presented a comprehensive 65 country index that identifies countries and jurisdictions that are the most accommodating for digital nomads.” The report looked at both “unique challenges and benefits” of each country to determine the best. The index is comprised of 12 different indicators that are divided into five categories, such as “Visa Benefits”, “Visa Benefits”, “Quality of Life”, Economic Environment and Tech and Innovation.” Each indicator was given a score according to its relevance and influence on the decision making process of digital nomads. The scores were combined in order to determine an overall rating.
