    After three years, this iconic National Park campground will finally welcome campers again.

    Tuolumne Meadows Campground reopens to visitors August 1. The famed campground has been closed because of a $36 million, 3-year renovation.

    The three-year renovation of one of the biggest campgrounds within the National Parks system will be completed next month.

    Yosemite National Park is renowned for its famed waterfalls Tuolumne Meadows CampgroundThe reopening of the, which can hold up to 2,200 guests, is scheduled for August 1. according to the National Park Service (NPS). The opening of the NPS follows a 26 million dollar renovation that began in early 2022.

    The California park campground now has brand new and upgraded restrooms. There are also new picnic tables, firepits and food lockers that keep animals away. The infrastructure has also been upgraded, with 29 new hiking-in camping areas and a replacement of the water system.

    It is home to an amphitheater called the Dana Campfire Circle, which hosts evening programs led by rangers. The amphitheater has also been renovated and now includes new seating for companions and accessible routes.

    In a press release, Yosemite National Park’s acting superintendent, Ray McPadden, said that Tuolumne Meadows was a popular destination for nature lovers, families, backpackers and equestrians from all over the world. He added that the NPS had “revitalized this beloved campground” in a manner which honors the past, protects the environment and prepares it to welcome future generations.

    Reservations are required for the campground and can be made online. recreation.gov. The cost of a base reservation is $36 per day.  At the time this article was published, all reservations through August 5 were fully sold out.

The campsite is not equipped with electric hook-ups and travelers are advised to be careful due to the bears. It is also located at a higher altitude, which can cause breathing problems. 

    Officials reminded travelers to “remain mindful of the young plants and shrubs, by keeping all equipment and wheels within established camping sites.”

    Tuolumne Meadows Campground is the largest campground in the state, covering 140 acres. Yosemite. The campground is located 90 minutes from Yosemite Valley, but boasts a small store, grill, and post office nearby.
