    • How voting works

Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe—to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Based on their location, hotels were classified into resort hotel, city, inn or safari lodges. They were also rated according to the following criteria:

      • Rooms/facilities
      • Location
      • Service
      • Food

The respondents were asked to rate each characteristic. They could select excellent, superior, average, inferior, or poor. These responses are averaged to arrive at the final score.

This is the first hospitality venture from Fauchon, a luxury food store known for its foie gras and chocolates. The rise to No.1 on the list is a reflection of the preferences of visitors to Paris, where food is a major attraction. The hotel’s location was unbeatable and the attentive service impressed guests most.
