GOBankingRates.com Dunedin, the winner of the report about the 50 livable retirement communities in the U.S., is located in Florida. It has a score of 84 on a 100-point scale and a median household earning of $68,068.
Dunedin is located about 25 miles west of Tampa on the Gulf of Mexico and has a large retirement community. About 35 percent of its residents are 65 years old or older. It is well-known for its charming downtown and beautiful beaches with white sand. Caladesi Island State Park is a beautiful park located just minutes from downtown Dunedin. Honeymoon Island offers unspoiled coastal scenery.
Dunedin follows at No. Ormond Beach is Florida’s No. 2, where a third is retired and the median income for households is $67.482. Sebastian, Florida, was ranked third, with a median income of $68,863, and 35.9% of the population over 65. Ormond Beach and Sebastian received a livability rating of 83.
More than half of the towns in this survey were located in Florida. Gulfport, ranked number 10, is one of seven Florida towns in the top 10. 6, Estero at No. Naples is ranked No. Venice comes in at number 9. 10.

The Northeast is home to notable cities such as Parole, Maryland (located just outside of the state’s capital, Annapolis), and Pompton Plains, New Jersey (located at No. Parole, Maryland is ranked No. 4, just outside the state capital Annapolis. Pompton Plains in New Jersey comes in at No. 7. Both towns have a household median income above $110,000.
To determine the rankings, GOBankingRates referred to the U.S. Census 2020 5-Year American Community Survey in order to identify towns that have populations of at minimum 10,000 people. At least 33 percent of those residents are over the age of retirement.
