Wausau in Wisconsin took third place. The Wisconsin River city in central Wisconsin was praised for its 90 livability score and low $238,916 average home price.
The last place on the list is Merced in California, at number 30. Merced in California was ranked 30th. The city of Modesto is a hidden treasure despite having a lower livability rating of only 75. Merced, with its average home value of $400,681, is still much cheaper than the $798,043 state average.
Pensacola in Florida ranked 29th, followed by Glassboro, New Jersey, and Springfield, Massachusetts. Glassboro, New Jersey and Springfield, Massachusetts followed in order.
The full list looked at 30 of the best hidden gem housing markets in the U.S. this year where the market offered “significantly lower home prices than their state averages, manageable mortgage costs and solid median incomes — along with strong livability ratings.”
GOBankingRates analyzed a range of data sources including the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Federal Reserve to produce the rankings. The weighting of each city was based on a number of categories, resulting in an overall score which “blends” affordability and livability.
