    This Budget Airline Is Canceling All U.S. Flights—What Travelers Should Know

    Iceland-based Play Airlines Recently, it announced that it will stop all operations in and out of the United States as well as North America this fall. 

    The airline confirmed to a newspaper that all flights into North America would cease by October 2025. statement On its website, 

    The airline launched its first flights to the U.S. from Baltimore, Boston and New York in 2021. Reykjavik, Iceland. Once in Iceland travelers could fly to many European destinations such as Berlin, Copenhagen Dublin, London and Porto. 

    Tickets for travel on Sept. 1 are currently available for as little as EUR174 one-way (approximately $201). Tickets on the route for travel on Sept. 1 are currently going for as little as €174 one-way (approximately $201). 

    Although the airline has flights departing from New York, they do not use the main airports including LaGuardia Airport(LGA), John F. Kennedy International Airport or Newark International Airport. It uses New York Stewart International Airport in Windsor, New York instead, located approximately 77 miles from New York City. The airport offers discounted options for travelers as well as a regular shuttle. 

    A representative of the airline said Travel + Leisure Play will contact all passengers affected to make necessary changes or refunds. 

    Play, in addition to ceasing its North America flights will also undergo restructuring, and change from an Icelandic Air Operator Certificate to a Maltese Air Operator Certificate. It will also be removing its stock exchange listing, and flying to fewer locations. The company will also rent aircraft to vendors. 

    Play Airlines has decided to terminate its U.S. routes at a moment when other airlines have cut back on their routes or closed down. For example, Silver Airways, a regional carrier that flies to the Bahamas and the Caribbean Islands as well as Florida, has also announced an abrupt shutdown.
