    This Airline for Dogs and Their Humans is Expanding Flights in the U.S.

    The “dog first” airline has expanded its routes and is celebrating carrying more than 1,000 dogs (and owners) in less than a year since it was launched.

    Bark Air first got its start in May 2024 Service was offered from New York City to Los Angeles, London and other cities. Since then, the carrier’s service has been expanded to Paris and Lisbon. Madrid, Seattle, Florida and San Francisco. It also offers the option to book shared or private charters. 

    Matt Meeker co-founder and CEO of Bark said: “Our goal when we launched Bark Air in 2017 was to create an experience where dogs are treated not as cargo but as VIP guests.” said in a statement. “We’re proud that we delivered on this promise one year later. We offer thousands of dogs and humans a stress free, joy filled way to explore the globe together. This milestone is a testament to our unwavering belief that dogs deserve better—and our commitment to building a dog-first future doesn’t stop here. We’re just getting started.”

    Bark Air’s fleet consists primarily of Gulfstream G4 or G5 aircraft, which are equipped with amenities such as calming aids, treats and comfortable seating. There is also plenty of room for dogs to move around. The dogs are given “their favorite beverage” on the ascent and descent to prevent the ear discomfort that is often caused by changes in cabin pressure. according to the company. There may also be some “special surprises” on the way.

    The carrier offers perks and convenience but can be expensive. On routes between New York and London, the average one-way ticket for one dog plus one person is $8,900. Flights generally fly every other week, and are operated on a staggered schedule.

    Other pets, such as birds or cats, may also be allowed to board. The safety of the non-dog companions is paramount. They must be kept in a carrier.

    Airline requires that dogs be restrained during the walk to and from the aircraft terminal, during taxiing, takeoff or landing, as well as if the dog is ill. turbulence is expected—similar to humans wearing seat belts. Once the aircraft has reached cruising height, the owner can remove the leash.

    BarkBox is a subscription package that includes toys and treats for dogs.
