Hot List The culinary offerings of hotels are often the highlight. These three properties might seem dramatically different from each other—a cozy inn, a glamorous beach club, and a classic Southern belle—but they have one important thing in common: standout restaurants serving up memorable, locally inspired cuisine, and meals worth traveling for.

Pastel shades are only one of many elements that give the Dunlin a refined, slow Southern look.

    The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection

The Dunlin, located along South Carolina’s Kiawah river, reimagines Lowcountry style with 72 cottage-style suites and villas spread across 2,000 acres. Robert Glazier, an architect and Amanda Lindroth, an interior designer, worked together to create a sophisticated Southern style. From the gabled roofs to the sweeping porches with pastel colors and gingham and rattan accents. You can enjoy a slow-paced lifestyle here. Take a dolphin tour, try sunrise yoga, or linger at Linnette’s for a leisurely Sunday brunch. With its refined takes on Lowcountry classics—skillet cornbread, shrimp and grits, brown butter crab rice, buttermilk-fried oysters—Linnette’s mint-colored dining room with checkered floors and straw details is a standout for its sophisticated Southern menu.

Then, is it? Coastal Grandmother Still a thing to be aesthetic? This timeless hideaway will have a similar vibe, even if you don’t see it elsewhere. Pack a variety of linen pants, button-downs, sweaters and dresses for your Dunlin outing.

Aside from a hotel, the Henson’s historic frontage houses an excellent dining destination.

The Henson — Hensonville, New York

Welcome to Hensonville in New York with its population of 378. It is the quintessential quiet hamlet nestled in the heartland. CatskillsThe platonic inn is now at home. The Henson, a sweet 16-room hideaway, has old-world whimsy blended with sophisticated contemporary design—the façade of the 19th-century boardinghouse exudes its sense of history, as do the bronze keys hanging behind the desk and the owners’ personal art collection, while rooms are filled with an eclectic mix of furniture, including an Adrian Pearsall platform sofa and dining chairs by Frederik Sieck for Fritz Hansen. The Henson is the perfect place to spend a few days in peace and quiet before you head to Matilda – the Henson’s restaurant, a culinary destination on its own. Here, chefs Jeremiah Stone and Fabián von Hauske Valtierra of New York City’s Contra use the Catskills’ abundance of ingredients in compelling new ways—think dauphine potatoes with prosciutto and basil and Amish golden chicken with dandelion, negi onion, and koji. The home-style breakfast is served every morning in the dining room, and includes a delicious frittata with freshly baked bread and local preserves.

You might arrive at the Henson with the best of intentions of exploring the surrounding Catskills—perhaps skiing at Hunter Mountain in the winter or hiking at Kaaterskill Falls in the summer—so you should definitely pack some activewear for outings. If you want to spend a few days relaxing by the fireplace to play chess in the drawing-room, or reading a good book on the roof with panoramic views, then you should pack some activewear. So be ready with cozy, comfortable outfits perfect for relaxing—and ideally with a flexible waistband to account for the decadent meals.

Marisol, the long-time favorite of the Beach Club on the Beachfront, is back to business after renovations.

    Mark Mediana/The Boca Raton

Boca Raton is a city that has been around for a long time. Florida The Beach Club at Boca Raton has been a landmark for over a century. Five hotels and a members’ club are spread out across 200 acres of waterfront land. It is a popular destination for everyone, from celebrities to locals celebrating milestones. The Beach Club at Boca Raton, which recently underwent a $130-million renovation, is a light, airy escape with 210 rooms that offer panoramic views. Two restaurants stand out in the new setting. Onda serves Caribbean cuisine with a coastal flair from an oceanfront restaurant, while Marisol is the Beach Club’s longtime favorite that has been refreshed. Diners can enjoy shellfish towers, Mediterranean classics and more.

If you want to take advantage of the resort’s endless array of activities—pickleball, tennis, golf, croquet, paddleboarding, and more—make sure you pack your best athleisure sets accordingly. But if you’d rather while away your days by one of the eight pools or the 50,000-square-foot Alhambra-inspired Spa Palmera, you just need a few chic swimsuits, coverups, and a handful of sundresses—and plenty of SPF.
