Jackson Hole is expanding at an ever-increasing rate luxury hospitality scene, it sometimes feels as if the hotel options blend together in a sea filled with earth tones, wood and stone accents, the obligatory walls of wildlife photography, and other contemporary-meets-Wild West design choices.
For a hotel to be truly distinctive, it must have something that is unique. This could be a backstory with a story, enviable locations, or exclusivity. Over the past few years, several new properties have individually checked one or two of those boxes, but there hasn’t been one that’s nailed all three—until now. The Sylvan lodge, a brand new retreat at the Snake River Sporting Club opened its doors on June 18. I was among the very first guests.
I have been visiting this area of Wyoming for many years but I never entered the grounds of the private club. Prior to the hotel’s opening, access to this pocket of Jackson Hole, Wyoming—25 minutes south of the town of Jackson—was reserved for members, their guests, or those renting one of the club’s luxury homes or cabins.
The Sylvan was created out of organic need. “We’ve always had out-of-town guests and members looking for accommodation in Jackson due to the quality of Cygnus capital’s golf course and amenities,” says Christopher Swann. Travel + Leisure.
The golf club covers nearly 1,000 acres, and the 18-hole course is designed by Tom Weiskopf. The scenic layout is tucked in between the banks the Snake River and Bridger-Teton National Forest. A reservation at The Sylvan Lodge allows you to book a tee-time on the otherwise private course. It also gives you a chance to enjoy Jackson Hole’s natural beauty, and the accompanying recreational activities. thousands of visitors Who descend on the area every day.
It’s still a part of the Snake River Sporting ClubThe Sylvan Lodge, with its 38 rooms and suites, is still grounded by the brand’s story. The word “Sylvan”, which has several definitions, is a term that means “of the woods.” The theme is central to the design of the property—for example, each suite is named after a local tree.
“The goal of the project was to create an refined, residential retreat that feels connected to the land and invites guests to be part of the forest, rather than just near it,” says Ryan Kingston, the area managing director for Noble House Hotels & Resorts, which manages a group of properties that now includes The Sylvan Lodge. The design incorporates neutral colors and natural materials, as well as original artwork from regional artists, which reflects wildlife and the landscape, such as eagles and elk.
It was evident that The Sylvan Lodge strives to be the best. Even though the team was still finishing up some amenities during my visit (such as the fitness center, spa, and on-site restaurant), the quality of service was already high. The hotel’s attention to detail was evident in every aspect, from the free snack, coffee, and drink bar located on the third-floor, to the heated bathroom floor and the soft bathrobes.
What impressed me the most was the service. I appreciated the attentiveness of the housekeeping staff and the friendly, helpful front desk. Also, the waitstaff who remembered my name at the clubhouse. The hotel’s staff has created an experience of warm hospitality that will make it a success when it opens in Jackson Hole.
What’s it like to stay in The Sylvan Lodge?
The Rooms
There are 38 guest rooms. 15 of them are suites. The King room is the smallest category, with a standard layout and a Nespresso coffee machine. If you are staying longer than a few nights, or traveling with kids, I recommend upgrading to a suite. These come with an in-room kitchen and laundry. This creates a real “home away from your home” experience. Suites also have furnished balconies—they’re the perfect place to unwind in the Wyoming sunshine.
I stayed at the hotel Two-Bedroom Canopy SuiteThe king-sized bedroom and the two bunk beds in the second bedroom make this a spacious space that can accommodate up to six people. The floor-to ceiling windows flood the room with light during the day. This makes the European white oak walls and ceilings, and the Restoration Hardware furniture, feel spacious and bright. My only complaint is that I have to operate the shades by hand. There isn’t a single inch in the room that does not combine both functionality and design.
The coffee tables have been accessorized with a set of books, a game of backgammon, and coasters that reflect the topography in the Teton Range. Riedel glassware and Churchill stoneware are displayed on the kitchen shelves and cabinets. A custom Sylvan lodge knife made by New West KnifeWorks is also a highlight.
Food and Drink
The hotel’s signature dining room. Engelmann’s BistroThe restaurant was not yet open when I visited, but Kingston says that it will initially focus on breakfast and highlight fresh, seasonal ingredients from Western Canada. As a result, my dining experiences took place in the Snake River Sporting Club. clubhouse restaurantsExecutive chef Eric Gruber is in charge of the River Room. The menu at River Room is well curated—one page of soups, salads, starters, sides, and mains—and there’s a range of seasonal items. The beet duo, a combination of roasted and pickled beets with herb-whipped feta, was my favorite, but I also enjoyed the daily specials like the crispy salmon. I also couldn’t stop myself from finishing off each meal by a scoop or two of bay laurel, a house speciality.
Martin Creek Poolside Grill It is an option that members and guests can enjoy. I went for the gourmet barbecue sandwich and a side of crudité. The overall atmosphere at this restaurant is relaxed. However, the staff was attentive to my gluten-free diet restriction.
The indoor-outdoor bar is a great place to get a drink. Dark Sky Bar The third floor is where you want to be. A mocktail that was not too sweet and expertly prepared was my drink of choice.

Abril Gruber, former spa manager of Amangani resort. the 20,000-square-foot spa at The Sylvan Lodge The eight treatment rooms, as well as the additional facilities were officially opened a few days following my check-out. The Sylvan Signature Massage was available in my room. This much-needed service removed all the tension that had built up after a long day of traveling, along with a few rounds skeet-shooting and a lesson in golf.
The spa was a full-service facility and I was very impressed. The spa features a total of three steam rooms. cold plunge, and an infrared sauna—as well as a therapy pool, a heated deck, and a sun-filled relaxation room. If you’ve ever thought about trying out a red light therapy mask, now is the time. You can purchase one at the retail boutique of the spa.
