The Met Hotel Leeds in Leeds’ heart is about to enter a new chapter. Major refurbishment projects are being announced. Since 1899, the Met Hotel Leeds has been a symbol for elegance in Leeds. Now, with this transformation, the hotel will be reimagined as a contemporary lifestyle location, with a refined but expressive attitude.
In November, the plans will be complete. They focus on preserving the historic features while adding thoughtfully curated spaces, dynamic social areas, and a higher level of hospitality. As part of the wider project, the hotel’s Restaurant & Bar will also be refreshed in line with the hotel’s new aesthetic, continuing to offer a relaxed, casual dining experience for guests, complementing the hotel’s broader lifestyle focus.
The hotel’s event and meeting spaces will also be optimized to better meet the needs of its target audience. The refurbishment will include significant upgrades that will position The Met as the premier venue for corporate award dinners and banqueting. It will also further cement its status as a top destination in Leeds for both leisure and business. The vision is to become the most exciting independent hotel in Leeds and the North, and to showcase prestige and personality.
Since its opening in the late 1880s, this 125-room hotel has been welcoming visitors for over a hundred years. It was designed by local architects and is known for its Victorian terracotta façade and stone cupola taken from the demolished 4th White Cloth Hall. The new design respects the original Victorian architecture and reinterprets it using a contemporary perspective. Sustainable design is a key part of the redesign. Local manufacturers were consulted for furnishings, and recycled and natural materials were used throughout.
The Met Hotel is situated in a central part of Leeds City Centre, with easy access from the train station. It’s also close to Leeds nightlife with Park Square, Greek Street and the Trinity Centre. Victoria Gate and Park Square are all within walking distance. The Met Hotel, Leeds’ newest hotspot for local and international visitors as well those seeking a luxury staycation in the city centre is a must-visit once it reopens later this year.
