    • Cave Spring is a small Georgia town located near the Alabama border. It’s known for its historical sites, quaint downtown shops and freshwater spring.

    • This tiny town, located just 1.5 hours away from Atlanta, is a great fall getaway. It hosts annual events such as the Halloween Coffin Races.

    North Georgia is littered with adorable towns, each claiming to be some Southern version of Stars Hollow à la the Gilmore Girls. You’ve probably never heard of it. 

    Cave Spring, Georgia is home to about 1,000 residents and is located just a few miles away from Atlanta. Alabama The state line is only 1.5 hours away. Atlanta—and during the fall, it’s the perfect destination for a day trip. Cave Spring, located in Vann’s Valley at the westernmost end of the valley, is named for the 2 million gallon per day spring of limestone that is situated right in the middle of the town. The cave and nearby trails are often the main attractions for visitors.

    Local Emilia Jackson who runs a business in Cave Spring says, “I’m not from Cave Spring but I fell for my husband Cleve and the charm of downtown square when I first visited.” Buttermilk BloomsShe and her husband own a farm that offers “U-Pick”, including cut flowers. “I like that I can park my car and walk around the town to take our daughters to Rolater Park where they can play in the playground, or at the spring-fed creek. We also stop at the local Library and have an ice cream from Spring Brew Coffee Co.”

    Jackson also agrees that visiting Cave Spring in the fall is a lot of fun. Fall brings special themed events to the town. These include the Halloween Coffin Races – a spooky twist on the Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby – the costume contest and the lively Halloween Parade This route runs through the heart of downtown.

    Jackson: “There’s no better time to visit than in the fall when the leaves turn and the air is crisper.”

    Spend your first days in town at the Cave Spring Welcome Center and Museum To get the lay of land. Maps and visitor information are available at the historic home. You can also find exhibits on everything from the history and culture of the first Indigenous inhabitants. Georgia School for the DeafIt is also located in the town. 

    According to the National Speleological SocietyThe Peach state has more than 800 caves. Many of these are found in the northeastern corner. Cave Spring is home to a natural freshwater spring in its eponymous cavern. This spring serves as the main source of drinking-water for the entire town.

    Visit the Cave Spring Rolater Park & Pinhoti TrailYou can visit the cave for only $2 per person and fill up your water bottles with spring water. The cave’s temperature is around 57°F all year round, which makes it a perfect escape from summer heat. If you’d like to cool down even further, you can also take a swim in Rolater Lake It costs $5. Pinhoti Trail is also a pleasant walk that runs through the park and connects with the Appalachian Trail.

    You’ll find it just a few minutes away, on Cave Spring Road. Vann Cherokee CabinIt is one of the oldest structures in Georgia. Avery Vann was a Cherokee Nation family member who built the cabin in 1810. Vann Valley is named after him. The log cabin, which was hand-hewn by Cherokees in 1810, is now a popular stop on the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. 

    Downtown Cave Spring offers a variety of shops for you to explore, including Antiques on the Square, Evergreen on BroadPeddler, Cave Spring General Store and Cave Spring Antiques are all excellent options for vintage decor and locally made products. Knick-knack fans will love the annual Highway 411 Yard Sale. This is when small towns (including Cave Spring) between Leeds, Alabama and Newport, Tennessee hold their yard sales.Tables full of second-hand and antique goods are set up along the roadside.

    Cycle sections of the road in Cedartown, Georgia (about 15 minutes from Atlanta) if you want to burn some calories. Silver Comet TrailThe 61.5 mile pedestrian and bike path that connects Georgia with Alabama.

    Start your day at Spring Brew Coffee Co.You can also pick up an ice cream or latte with a seasonal theme. Local Joe’s at Cave Spring The casual restaurant offers baked goods, Georgian-style barbecue and popular sides such as the popular Brunswick StewIt is believed that the. 

    Stage Coach Pizza Co. The pies are served in a historical space that has a saloon atmosphere. It also offers all the usual toppings. The name suggests, A&B Creekside Restaurant and Catering It’s a favorite for its steaks and burgers. Locals love Southern Flavor All-you-caneat catfish is available, along with other favorites like fried zucchini and macaroni & cheese.

    Linde Marie’s Steakhouse on the Square It is the only steakhouse in Northwest Georgia that serves all types of cuts, including sirloin and prime rib, with all the fixings. Jackson’s favorite Linde Marie’s meal is the chicken with pecan crust.

    Cave Spring has a limited number of accommodations, which are mostly short-term rentals. Accommodations in Cave Spring are limited, and most of them are short-term rentals. Hearn Inn, which used to be the girls’ dormitory for the Georgia School for the Deaf—guests can now rent a room, or the entire house. Cedar Creek Park There are RV and tent campsites starting at $20 per night. You can also rent kayaks, tubes, and canoes. 

    Rome is only 15 miles away and offers more choices, including national brands. You can, for example, choose the Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham Rome It is housed in a warehouse from the 1890s that has retained many of its original features. It is conveniently located near the Oostanaula and many local restaurants.
