Global Digital Director, Michael Sullivan, highly recommends this collapsible bag. Arati MenonIt is a bag that will satisfy both city dwellers and safari goers. In May 2025 she took the bag to Africa, and visited a number of places. She brought it along to comply with luggage rules—you’re not allowed hard cases on most safaris (last-mile connectivity was provided by puddle jumpers or helicopters). “Because this was a 2-week trip, I needed a bag to fit. a lot, as well as something practical to travel with—and this bridged those worlds,” says Menon. The other trip was to Fogo Island, CanadaMenon, too, was subjected to a number of transport connections.
Unpacked, it weighs just six pounds. This makes it the lightest bag on this list. The bag is a large compartment with two stability straps on the bottom to add structure, two compression straps for holding everything together, and a zippered pocket.
Menon says that the bag could have lasted for up to 14 days if I had not packed trekking boots, jackets, and other items. The soft case is made of ballistic Nylon, so it’s tough and rarely scratches.
It looks impeccable even after Menon’s Africa safari sojourn: “I cleaned it with a wet cloth and soap—easy peasy,” she says. One qualm, perhaps? The only problem is that it has only two wheels and not the four common today. Menon said that dragging it at an angled position is more difficult if it’s overstuffed. The wheels are of good quality and the design is easy to handle with two leather-wrapped side handles and a top handle. And because this bag folds up so easily into its own zipped pouch, rolling it up is enjoyable and allows for neat storage after unpacking—both in a hotel and at home. Menon says, “Its compactness is perfect for this neatness freak.” “It is definitely the leader of its group.”
