    Southwest will add a new route to the Caribbean

    • Southwest Airlines is planning to begin flights from St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands by 2026.
    • St. Thomas, a popular holiday destination with record numbers of passengers on airlines in 2024, has grown to be a very popular place.

    Southwest Airlines has launched a new service from St. Thomas The airline will add the Caribbean to its list of destinations by adding flights in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The carrier will launch new flights in early 2026 to St. Thomas’ Cyril E. King International Airport, which is the ninth island destination within the Atlantic Basin. according to the airline.

    Southwest has not yet announced where it will operate its flights. The new flights, however, are subject to approval by the government.

    Southwest CEO Bob Jordan made a statement saying that they were “listening carefully to what customers want”.

    The airline teased that it would announce two new destinations in addition to St. Thomas this summer. The airline did not reveal where the destinations were.

    If you don’t wish to wait until 2026 to book your flight, there are several airlines that currently serve STT. They include American Airlines (Cape Air), Delta Air Lines (Delta Air), and United Airlines. 

    St. Thomas Airport is also an important hub for regional and inter-island travel. From there, passengers can book flights for San Juan, St. Croix and other destinations.

    In a recent statement, Joseph Boschulte said, “As a tourism destination, we will continue to explore, improve and elevate our destination to become a premier Caribbean destination.”
