South Africa Hospitality group Southern Sun has signed its first hotel branded residences in the R5 billion (£209 million) Oceans Umhlanga mixed-use development.
The Oceans Umhlanga plan includes the Oceans Mall, as well as Radisson Blu Durban Umhlanga Hotel. North Oceans Umhlanga Residential Tower launched last Thursday will bring 258 luxury apartment to the scheme.
Southern Sun has signed a deal with the project’s developer Vivian Reddy to add Southern Sun Hotel & Residences Oceans Umhlanga in the South Tower, which is due to be completed in late 2027.
The hotel is expected to have 200 rooms, along with 80 serviced residences.
Marcel von Aulock said, “We are delighted to be working with Oceans Umhlanga on this groundbreaking development. Southern Sun won’t just be managing the South Tower hotel; it will also have an equity stake and be involved with the management of both the hotel as well as the residences.
“The Southern Sun Hotel & Residences Oceans Umhlanga represents a new opportunity for us to both increase our capacity in the vibrant Umhlanga Rocks area, as well as enter a new market for quality serviced apartments that cater for both short- and longer-stay guests. This is the first time the group has entered the market for branded hotels residences and apartment spaces,” he said.
