SLS Playa Mujeres Cancun All-inclusive Hotel Review

When I learned that Mexico is experiencing a luxury renaissance, I didn’t expect it to extend to Cancún. I associate Cancun with its vibrant nightlife, guests who enjoy it and hotels that offer a place to have fun. When it comes to its nightlife, the city is a haven for fun. all-inclusive resorts, something Cancún is known for, I hadn’t been to one where I had received the full 360 experience—exceptional food, great entertainment, The following are some examples of how to get started: Relax. SLS, which claims to “create wonderlands that amaze and delight”, made its grand appearance on the sugary-soft, palm fringed beaches of Costa Mujeres. This gated community invites visitors to say goodbye to the ordinary. 

I visited to find out if these claims were true. My full review of SLS Playa Mujeres is below.

The Rooms

The resort offers 498 rooms in three different categories: Delight Captivate and Euphoria. The smallest room is Delight, Captivate is poolside, and Euphoria offers a larger suite.

My room was a Captivate Swim Out, just a few steps away from the river pool. The bathroom had Ortigia products and a rain showerhead. The Captivate rooms are located close together, but they still offer privacy due to the carefully curated design features, such as lush plants that border each terrace.

SLS Playa Mujeres has a selection of suites that range from one- to three-bedrooms, with lavish living and dining areas and an expansive terrace with views of the ocean. As part of SLS’ new offering, I was able to visit more guest rooms. SLS EliteThe two-level room includes a jacuzzi on the roof deck, a lounge and panoramic views.

SLS Elite guests will enjoy a personalized check-in and butler service. They can also expect premium spirits, a private lounge, priority dining reservations, access to an exclusive beach as well as a host of other benefits that make an all inclusive resort worth the money. But the great thing is that at this resort, you don’t need the upgrade to feel luxurious—a stay here provides that experience all around.

Food and Drink

Mexico is one my favorite places to eat in the world. This all-inclusive resort didn’t disappoint. SLS Playa Mujeres boasts over 15 dining choices, and I regret that I didn’t get to try them all. I visited several restaurants that had delicious food and mindful portions.

Caracol’s open-flame grilling of fresh seafood from Mexico’s coastline is a celebration. The fish tacos were delicious and the spices weren’t overwhelming.

The Market Buffet’s breakfast was excellent, with a variety of options. I had chilaquiles and later sat poolside with a mouth-watering smoothie from Verde and Mediterranean-inspired meals from Twiggy.

Union, New York steakhouse at the resort offers top-notch food and dance performances by locals. New Yorkers have high standards for steak, and I really enjoyed the dining experience.

There were many more restaurants to choose from—some with Italian, French, Japanese, and Greek-inspired cuisines and other venues that were perfect if you wanted to mix up your atmosphere with a cocktail experience like The Monkey Bar.

You can choose from a variety of bars if you want to enjoy a little nightlife. Hudson Tavern, a sports bar in the city of Toronto, was a wonderful place to spend time. The music was upbeat and the people were able to dance or relax at their own pace.

Activities and Experiences

SLS Playa Mujeres is an all-inclusive resort that offers entertainment for all ages. There are four swimming pools, each with its own DJ, as well as a teen club and a kids’ club that organizes activities for the whole family. On the beachfront, there is an outdoor adventure, a splash area, and non motorized water sports.

The indoor and outdoor theaters with their snacks and comfortable seating were a great experience for me as a cinephile. You can enjoy programming for every age group, or just come in to soak up the atmosphere.

There is also a Greg Norman designed golf course that I did get to see, but it was impressive. Fitness classes are offered daily by Nike-sponsored trainer Julio Bustelo for people of all ages.

The Spa

The Ciel Spa at the hotel has over 20,000 sq. ft. of wellness areas, so it’s easy for you to take some time out. I enjoyed an ancient Greece-inspired aromatherapy massage and spent time in the thermal bath.

The spa has 20 treatment rooms and offers CBD-infused therapies as well beauty services.

Offerings that are family-friendly

The resort was designed to ensure that all guests, including families, can enjoy it. There are a variety of activities in the kids’ and teen clubs, as well as the pool areas and guest rooms.

The resort’s wide open air layout allows guests to move around freely without being crowded.

Location

SLS Playa Mujeres is located 30 minutes from Cancún International Airport and about 15 minutes from the city, which is perfect for guests who prefer to avoid Cancún’s bustling nightlife but definitely want access to it when in the mood for a good time.

The private Marina allows easy access to Isla Mujeres as well as the world renowned Great Mayan Reef. Those looking to venture off-property can also learn more about the rich history and culture of the Mayan civilization with day trips to ancient Mayan sites of Chichén Itzá, Tulum, or Coba.
