    • Six Flags America in Bowie and Hurricane Harbor, Maryland will close permanently on Nov. 2.
    • Tickets and season passes for the Bowie amusement park will be honored until the end 2025.
    • Six Flags Entertainment Corporation says that the park’s closing is part of a continuing optimization of its portfolio.

After this winter, Maryland’s thrill seekers and roller-coaster lovers will have to find other places to enjoy their favorite pastime.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, a subsidiary of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, announced in May it would close Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland and Hurricane Harbor on November 2, after 25 years. It will sell the 500-acre land for redevelopment.

Six Flags operates 42 parks in the U.S. and Canada. They offer roller coasters, waterparks, and animal encounters. Six Flags America has rides for young children or families.

Six Flags is continuing its portfolio optimization program. Six Flags America, according to the company currently employs 70 associates full-time, who are entitled to severance pay and other benefits.

“This was a difficult decision, and we recognize the impact it will have on our Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor park associates and guests,” Richard A. Zimmerman, Six Flags president & CEO, said in a release obtained by Travel + Leisure. Six Flags will support all of its associates affected by the closure at the end this year. Six Flags America has been a part of the community for many years, and this last season will allow guests to enjoy the fun they have experienced at the park.

What will happen to the rides, attractions and other entertainment? The company said PEOPLE Nothing is finalized, and the option of moving or selling to another operator exists.

All season tickets and passes valid for Six Flags America or Hurricane Harbor in 2025 are honored throughout the amusement park season of 2025.
