AirDNA discovered that cleaning fees vary widely from country to country and city to city.
AirDNA, analyzing data from Airbnb and Vrbo found that 89% listings in the U.S. charged cleaning fees. Aruba was next (88.6%) and Curacao was third (86.7%) by April 1, 2025.
Kazakhstan (15.3%), Sri Lanka (17.9%) and Madagascar (20.5%) were the three countries that had the lowest percentages of cleaning fees in short-term rentals. (See the charts below.
According to experts, the prices vary due to different hospitality standards, cultures and nature of the competition.
Regional Trends in Cleaning Fees
North American and Caribbean listings have the highest listing rates with cleaning fees added.
In the U.S., for example, there are approximately 1.5 million listings that include cleaning fees. The average cleaning fee is $96 per one-bedroom home, which was an increase of 3.3%.
