To celebrate World Mangrove Day on July 26, Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort and Sheraton Denarau Villas gathered 50 associates last Friday, July 25, to plant over 200+ mangrove seedlings as part of their ongoing commitment to environmental restoration on Denarau Island under the Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy platform.
World Mangrove Day raises awareness of mangroves’ importance in supporting biodiversity, protecting coastal communities, and enhancing food security. In Fiji, this day is an opportunity to highlight the crucial role mangroves play in the local environment and encourage community engagement through sustainable practices.
The resort’s Sustainable Mangrove Planting Initiative was launched in August of 2024. A larger planting activity last year involved over 140 employees who planted 427 Mangrove Saplings. These efforts are aimed at protecting and regenerating the fragile coastal ecosystems surrounding the resorts.
Hotel Manager at the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, Yvo Van Dijk, “Through initiatives such as this, we “Embolden our next generation of leaders so that they can protect the uniqueness of Fiji and ensure our communities, coastlines and coastal communities thrive for generations to follow.”
Set across a 25-acre beachfront property, Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort and Sheraton Denarau Villas dedicate 68% of the land to landscaped greens, solar-powered operations, and a robust Environmental Management System. Both resorts are located on Denarau Island and offer premium amenities, breathtaking natural surroundings, vibrant dining, crafted using the freshest ingredients responsibly sourced, as well as a firm commitment to sustainability. The eco-minded ethos permeates the resorts, from an organic farm on-site that supplies their restaurant to a guest tree planting experience, as well as a standout sustainable cocktails program that blends Fijian traditional techniques with zero waste practices.
