    Secret Retreats proudly announces that six of its boutique member properties have now achieved Travelife certification, a globally respected sustainability standard in tourism. The most recent update to this distinguished list is Aava Resort & Spa in Khanom, Thailand, which has passed the audit for the second time, demonstrating the highest commitment to responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.

    What is Travelife?

    Travelife A sustainability certification program specifically designed for the travel and tourism industry. Backed by Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)Travelife has a total of more than 160 Criteria On key issues such as environmental impact, waste water management, employment practices, biodiversity conservation and community engagement. For certification, hotels must undergo rigorous independent audits and prove continuous improvement. This is one of the most demanding and comprehensive eco-certification programs in global hospitality.

    “Certification through Travelife is not just a label—it’s a meaningful commitment,” says Stéphane Junca, Secret Retreats Managing director and co-founder. “This proves these properties offer not only exceptional hospitality, but do so in a way that shows deep respect for people, cultures, and the environment of their destinations.     Secret Retreats’ Travelife-Certified Properties:

    • Aava Resort & Spa – Khanom, Thailand (NEW)
      Aava, located on the tranquil southern coast of Thailand, is the newest member to be awarded Travelife certification. The resort promotes local sourcing and employment in the community, as well as eco-conscious wellness experiences.
    • Koh Jum Beach Villas – Krabi, Thailand
      This resort is a leader in sustainable luxury and has been for many years. Travelife gold certification. The resort offers an eco-luxury model in Thailand. From local staff training to solar power, plastic-free policy and mangrove preservation. The hotel was also recognized for its eco-luxury. Thailand’s Best Eco-Lodge/Hotel Tourism Authority of Thailand (Taiwan) in 2020
    • Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge – Nepal
      Travelife has certified this property as having dramatic Himalayan views, and it is validated by them. GSTC Global Standards. It is a regenerative tourism project that integrates the rewilding of local communities, and has strong partnerships with conservation groups and local communities.
    • La Folie Lodge – Champasak, Laos
      A river island sanctuary opposite the UNESCO site of Wat Phou, La Folie Lodge emphasizes local employment, cultural preservation, and responsible sourcing—all contributing to its Travelife recognition.
    • Riverside Boutique Resort – Vang Vieng, Laos
      Riverside, nestled between mountains & river, is deeply involved with local artisans & ethnic minority communities. Its sustainability program encompasses cultural preservation and environmental management as well as community education.
