After the $1.1 billion sale of TPG’s hotel tech division, Sabre will become more focused and slimmer. Skift reports that about 1,000 people will move along with it. Sabre CEO Kurt Ekert confirmed this.
This business will “largely move in the same direction,” he said. This includes Scott Wilson (President of Sabre Hospitality) and other executives. Sabre now has a workforce of about 5,500.
Ekert has put in a lot more effort to build the hotel tech division since he became CEO of Sabre in 2023. Sabre had a debt of over $5 billion, and Ekert was determined to reduce this level. Most of the sale proceeds – about $960 million after taxes and fees – will go toward debt reduction.
On the one hand, it has been a tremendous success.
