    The Roosevelt New Orleans

    • The Roosevelt New Orleans is known for its ability to pamper and cater to guests in a fine Southern style.
    • The hotel is located just a few block from the world famous Bourbon Street. It’s close to the action, but still quiet.
    • The décor here strikes the perfect balance between historic and modern.
    • Five restaurants are located on the hotel grounds where guests can enjoy a quick bite or a gourmet meal.

People usually think of New Orleans as a place with wild parties, lots and lots of alcohol, and lots of music. If you want to experience New Orleans in a completely different way (or just stay somewhere quiet after a night of partying), then I recommend that you book a room at The Roosevelt New Orleans. The Waldorf Astoria, formerly known as the “Grunwald”, is a luxury property that opened in 1893. The hotel has a rich history in New Orleans.

The hotel has hosted legendary guests such as Sonny and Cher, Frank Sinatra, and multiple United States presidents—but not, as you may (logically) assume, Theodore Roosevelt. The property was renamed “The Roosevelt” in 1923 in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt for his contributions to the Panama Canal construction, which boosted local New Orleans’ economy. The Roosevelt, however, has remained a constant reminder of New Orleans’ illustrious heritage, no matter what the city has become over the years.

As soon as the hotel’s uniformed front desk opened my car door, I felt transported to a different time. I was blown away by the main entrance. The ceilings were decorated with crystal chandeliers and the floral arrangements and floors gave the hotel an European flair. Although the lobby was large, I did not hear any noise. The hotel was so quiet that it felt like we were the only guests there, even though Mardi Gras was just a week away.

The Roosevelt Hotel is not your typical Southern Belle. The Roosevelt has 504 rooms, including 125 suites. world-class spaThe hotel has an outdoor pool and the Sazerac Bar, which is credited for popularizing one the city’s signature cocktails. It also offers five dining options, as well as 60,000 square foot of meeting space. The hotel is spread over an entire city block. It offers guests every convenience they could possibly desire.

Being able to easily walk to the Canal Street streetcar line, parades, entertainment, and bars means that it never takes long to get to where the action is—and it’s never too far to get to that next New Orleans party.

Staying at The Roosevelt New Orleans is like no other.

    The Rooms

The Roosevelt New Orleans has four types of rooms, ranging in size from deluxe to luxury suites. The luxurious interior design is a common feature of all rooms.

The high ceilings and crown molding on the walls made my room feel spacious. The bedding felt comfortable and sumptuous, but my favorite feature of the room had to have been the bathroom—it was large and there was more than enough room to change clothes without bumping into walls.

The hotel has five restaurants. However, if after a night filled with brandy-milk punches you are craving something to eat in the morning, there is a mini-bar stocked up on all the essentials (including Nespresso coffee makers). The rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs and high-speed Internet.

The restaurant’s rustic feel makes it a favorite among locals and visitors (I highly suggest making reservations—my friend and I tried to walk in early one evening and couldn’t even get a spot to sit at the bar to grab a bite).

Teddy’s Cafe offers a peaceful place for you to read, work or relax. You can get coffee, beignets or other small snacks at Teddy’s Cafe.

You are looking for an iconic and historic place to enjoy a drink. Sazerac Bar will do the trick. It was originally located in the French Quarter and moved to The Roosevelt Hotel in 1949. With its art deco décor and low lighting, it’s an intimate place to enjoy a predinner drink or nightcap. You should also order a Sazerac. The classic New Orleans cocktail is made at the original location with rye whisky, absinthe and bitters.

This hyperlocal celebration celebrates the day women who had been banned from the Sazerac bar took it over as a protest. The Sazerac was the first New Orleans bar to allow women to enter outside of Mardi Gras.
