UK/Norway – Two Radisson Hotels in Manchester and Oslo have been awarded the Group’s highest rating Verified Net Zero status, Meeting the Net Zero Hotel Methodology’s requirements.
The existing Park Inn by Radisson Manchester City Centre has been renovated and repositioned as Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre.
The current Park Inn by Radisson Oslo City Centre will be renovated and rebranded to Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, launching operation in the beginning of July 2025.
Both properties have achieved Verified Net Zero status by following the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels, developed by the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance and verified by a third party, TÜV Rheinland.
The program consists of using or purchasing 100% renewable energy and changing menus in order to reduce food wastage. It also reduces transportation emissions.
The Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre has installed heat pumps to provide hot water, and a kitchen that uses induction cooking. The hotel purchases 100 per cent renewable electricity.
Radisson RED Oslo City Centre is also powered by renewable electricity, and will be heated by the city. Oslo relies on district heating powered by renewable energy generated from multiple sources, such as city waste treatments or data centres.
Verified Net Zero Hotels have partnered up with companies like Nespresso and Too Good to Go to donate or recycle items that would otherwise be disposed of in landfills.
Radisson is also working with Swedish company Klimato on creating low-carbon meals for its guests. The menus rank each recipe according to its carbon footprint, from A (best), to E (worst).
Federico J. González, executive vice chairman at Radisson Hotel GroupRadisson Hotel Group’s goal is to achieve Net Zero status by 2050. The move is easier with new builds, but in reality 80 per cent are already constructed. It is important to make the most of these existing buildings as quickly as possible.
“Today, I am proving that Net Zero hotel conversion is possible. The Manchester and Oslo Hotels have shown that a conversion strategy can transform non-sustainable hotel assets into high performing asset classes, with a positive effect on the environment. This approach must be taken seriously and verified. And we are doing so with TÜV Rheinland. Verified Net Zero Hotels are the future and provide guests with the best sustainable stay,” said Mr. He.
