Radisson Hotel Group has continued to advance its commitment to responsible business with an innovative, closed-loop approach to recycling hotel liquid bulk amenities in key markets, such as India, Saudi Arabia, or the United Arab Emirates. This large-scale initiative is part the Group’s commitment to reduce single-use waste, support a circular economy and provide sustainable stays for guests.
The initiative ensures the collection of bulk amenity bottle used, extraction and recycling of the liquids left in the bottles, and recycling and repurposing the packaging. This circular economy approach not only contributes to a sustainable supply chain, but it also reduces plastic pollution. In India, a closed-loop recycling system was implemented through a national network of 11 recycling companies that collected hotel waste. Materials are then cleaned, sorted, recycled, and converted into raw materials. The closed-loop approach is documented in a full audit, and regularly reported.
As part of its commitment to Hotel Sustainability BasicsThe Radisson Hotel Group has already replaced single-use bathroom amenities with bulk amenity dispensing dispensers. 91% of hotels have soap dispensers installed in public washrooms. The Group plans to roll out reusable soap dispensers across its portfolio by 2025. The initiative is estimated to eliminate 57 millions miniature amenity containers annually and reduce the plastic consumption by nearly 500 tonnes.
Radisson Hotel Group also replaced all single-use plastic in dry bathroom products with alternatives that are environmentally friendly. Dry bathroom products are packaged in innovative materials to reduce the amount of plastic used. Stone paper – crafted from calcium carbonate bonded with high-density polyethylene resin – has replaced cellulose-based paper and is combined with soybean oil ink used for printing. FSC Cardboard (sourced from recycled and responsibly managed forest) is used as packaging. The dry amenities are made from PSM materials, which combine starch from corn and potatoes with plastic fillers such as polypropylene. This step aligns with the Group’s ongoing efforts to minimize its environmental footprint while maintaining premium ‘Yes I Can’ service.
“We are committed towards leading the sustainability industry and reducing single-use plastic waste in all our operationsInge Huijbrechts said, “At Radisson Hotel Group, the Chief Sustainability Officer and Security Officer is Inge. Our guests can easily experience sustainable stay, as expressed by the Hotel Sustainability Basics certification or recognized eco-label.
