What Readers Really Loved
The three leading hotels in Dublin share not only a timeless style but also a warm Irish welcome. They are located right in the middle of the Irish capital and just a few steps away from landmarks like Trinity College Dublin and beautiful parks, such as St. Stephen’s Green. One reader commented that the Merrion Hotel was his preferred hotel in Dublin. Last year’s winner, Merrion Hotel No. 2, was a reader. “I always feel welcomed when I visit this city.”
The Shelbourne Dublin, No. The Shelbourne Dublin (No. Its storied history is a big draw, but the 265-room hotel constantly strives to improve itself with new seasonal menus, extravagant lobby displays (from oversized flower arrangements to edible Easter décor), and sumptuous spa treatments.
In fact, the combination of new and old is what makes this year’s winner so special.
The Winner
The Westbury
The Doyle Collection
The Westbury is the flagship of family-owned boutique hospitality company The Doyle Collection. It treats guests as if they were longtime friends. This is a “home away from home”, said one reader. The readers were equally impressed by the elegant interiors with museum-quality art by legends like Sir John Lavery and Louis le Brocquy, as they were by “small” details including “beds which you can melt into”, and “stunning” cocktails at the 1930s Sidecar Bar where concoctions of homegrown botanicals and spirit are shaken. One reader said, “Everything at The Westbury is outstanding.” “I give it 5 stars.”
