Ordovician Resort opened in Panama’s Isla Grande with 47 rooms

Ordovician Resort opened its doors on Isla Grande in Panama’s Portobelo National Park. This site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The resort is located in Panama’s northern Caribbean coastline and has 47 rooms. The resort is the only one in the region with a private ocean beach, and it offers overwater bungalows.

The property, formerly known Bananas Village Resort underwent complete reconstruction. The project was completed with 95 percent local workers, and more than 300 employees worked full-time during the construction phase. Over 100 staff members are employed at the resort, including many from nearby communities.

Ordovician offers day trips to San Blas Islands and access to nearby islands. The resort has a new helipad on site for private helicopter services and boat transfers for VIPs.

The resort offers a culinary program that is led by Executive chef Stiven Hernandez. The program emphasizes local produce with over 90 percent of ingredients coming from the resort’s organic garden. Dining options at the resort include The Shell Bistro, El Acuario, and Rick’s Café Americain.

A sauna and customized spa treatments are among the wellness facilities available at the resort. The resort also offers activities like snorkeling, island hopping, and guided tour of historical sites such as the Portobelo Spanish Fort.

A dive center will open in September of 2025. It will specialize in warm water dives with excursions into coral reefs, historical shipwrecks, and caves.

The resort will launch a foundation that will support initiatives for education, infrastructure and wellness in the nearby communities. To support the local youth, plans include a sports complex and a school.

Ordovician Beach Resort aims to attract attention to the Costa Arriba region of Colón, which remains less explored compared to other parts of Panama. The development of the resort is part a larger effort to increase the appeal of this region to tourists.
