My dad and me like to plan large. When we visited London in June last year, my dad and I planned a trip that took us through the city’s most popular neighborhoods and to the largest sites. Since we were only in London for a short weekend, we had one requirement: the hotel we chose must be centrally located. We found the ideal solution at One Aldwych.

My dad and I were never too far from the Edwardian-style hotel as we walked, rode, or took a bus to explore the town. The building was built in 1905, and it once housed the National Gallery of Art. One Aldwych made us feel at home for the few days we spent there. We loved coming back from our adventures and being greeted by the friendly staff. The property was quiet and tranquil despite its location in a busy area of the city.
What’s it like to stay in One Aldwych?
The Rooms
One Aldwych has 101 rooms and suites, each with a charming, contemporary aesthetic, and pastel colors.
The rooms are furnished with modern furniture and bedding. They feature large picture windows, crisp, plush bedding and handwoven blankets. stunning views of the city—some even have private balconies. The Studio Suite overlooking Waterloo Bridge was our choice. The large windows made the “studio” feel airy and spacious, despite the fact that it was only a small space. The bathroom was equally impressive, with marble accents and Mitchell & Peach toiletries.
You may want to consider one of 16 suites if you are traveling in a group or with your family. There are three suite types that you can choose from, but all of them have an apartment-like feel—you can also request extra beds, cots, or bed rails as needed.

One Aldwych’s main restaurant is located at One Aldwych IndigoThe restaurant’s menu features British cuisine and products. The restaurant has been using locally sourced ingredientsThe menu changes seasonally. The menu includes fish and chips with mushy beans, tuna tartare, made from fish caught in Cornwall, and Irish Rib-Eye Steak. Indigo serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, we enjoyed the spread of pastries, juices, pancakes and eggs that they offered.
The hotel lounge offers a relaxed atmosphere. afternoon tea service Inspired by the British Classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory—think cotton candy cones, bottles of chocolate milk, and a plethora of cakes and sweets. My personal favorite thing, however, was ordering late-night room service—the chicken pot pie was perfection.

The One Aldwych offers a variety of amenities. But the subterranean pool, with its chlorine-free water, in the wellness centre was my favorite place to relax after a long day of exploration. Fitness center is also open 24/7 and well-equipped. One of the most unique amenities at the hotel is the underground movie theater.The theater was temporarily closed at the time this article was published., where guests are invited to enjoy private screenings and classic films.
The Spa
The Health Club is located underground. It offers classic massages, face-massages, and body scrubs. These are all tailored to suit each guest. Products from the luxe British skincare brand Oskia and the Spanish brand Natura Bissé are used in every treatment. The gym is open 24 hours a day and is equipped with Technogym machines. There is also a 60-foot long, chlorine-free swimming pool.
Family Friendly Offerings

This hotel is family-friendly, even though it doesn’t offer a kids’ club. On request, babysitting is available. Extra beds and cots are also available. A kid-friendly menu is available for breakfast, and a separate menu for lunch or dinner.
One Aldwych welcomes your furry family member. All dogs under one year of age are welcome at the hotel. They are even provided with their own bowls, towels, ergonomic beds, and treats. Your dog will not be allowed to join you in the Health Club or restaurant, but is welcome in the lobby or library until 5 pm.
Sustainability and accessibility
Three accessible rooms are available at One Aldwych. These include features like widened doorways, emergency buttons for calling for assistance, and bathrooms that have lowered vanities and walk-in showers. The elevators at the hotel are also wide.
One Aldwych is London’s first B Corp-certified hotelThis means that it has met the strict environmental standards set by the non-profit organization. The property features water-saving fixtures, low impact lighting and composts all waste. Indigo is the hotel’s restaurant and it uses British products and meats. In fact, you may enjoy breakfast with honey sourced very close to home—the hotel has a rooftop apiary.

The hotel is located in London’s Covent Garden, which, as we soon learned, is one of the most vibrant areas of the city. It’s also perfectly positioned for theatergoers, with the West End—London’s version of New York’s Broadway—just a short walk away. Trafalgar Square and other historical landmarks are also close by. Covent Garden MarketAnd the Royal Opera House. You will find plenty of stylish shops and restaurants to visit in this area.
Heathrow Airport LHR is approximately 17 miles away. You can get to One Adlwych in about 45 minutes if you use Uber or a taxi. If you choose public transport (either bus, subway and bus), you will need about an hour-and-a-half.
