    San Miguel Allende, located in the highlands of Guanajuato in Mexico, is famous for its cobblestone streets. baroque architectureIt is a vibrant culinary destination that attracts visitors from all over the world. San Miguel Allende hosts a variety of hotels, such as the Numu Boutique Hotel.

    Numu skillfully blends San Miguel Allende’s history with modern luxury—it’s a great destination for art and design lovers with custom works around the property by Mexican artists that pay homage to the local landscape. The sculpture over the lobby bar was influenced by the local mining history and the volcanoes nearby. The property is home to multiple textile sculptures that celebrate Mexican weaving tradition, as well two large mojigangas A local craft, puppets are displayed near the door.

    The hotel is also in a great location, next to one of the city’s most popular parks (Parque Benito Juárez) and within walking distance of many of San Miguel’s attractions, without being too close to the hustle and bustle of the crowds around the cathedral. If you want to relax, there are plenty of options. Numu has the only rooftop pool in the city’s downtown—a perfect location for soaking up the sunshine with a fun drink.

    The Rooms

    Numu Boutique Hotel has 44 guest rooms and suites, and each has a private terrace or balcony. There are seven accommodation types that travelers can pick from, ranging from the 409-square-foot room with a king bed and a garden view to the Presidential Suite, which clocks in at 1,464 square feet and has a private rooftop terrace with a hot tub and views of San Miguel’s Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel.

    The king-sized suite I stayed at was equipped with a large bed, an office desk, a couch and ample space for stretching out. Each room has a spacious bathroom with rainfall showers.  The earthy color scheme in each unit features vibrant pops or terracotta orange. The color scheme and artwork were inspired by Guanajuato’s landscape and culture.

    Numu has two bars and two restaurants. Enrique, a farm-to table Mexican restaurant that serves “late breakfast” and other items like San Miguel Eggs, Chorizo, or large fresh pastries, is open until 2 pm. Dinner and lunch options range from pasta, tostadas and tapas to crudo and San Miguel eggs.

    Noia is located on the roof and serves as a restaurant. Mediterranean-Mexican fusion Enjoy lunch or dinner with stunning views of San Miguel’s historical downtown. The atmosphere is not the only thing you’ll find here. Expect perfectly prepared steaks, paired with innovative cocktails. Even guests can attend cooking classes taught by head chef Omar Tovar and mixology classes led by guest bartenders.

    Are you thirsty? You can find anything from “revitalizing cocktails” to coffee drinks at the lobby bar.

    Numu’s rooftop pool is the most impressive amenity. It is equipped with umbrellas and lounge chairs as well as a beautiful garden overlooking the historic buildings. Noia will serve you delicious food and drinks while you sunbathe. Numu’s rooftop pool is the only one in San Miguel’s historical downtown. It’s a great way to beat the summer heat and enjoy an unforgettable experience.

    Hamak Hotels is a Mexican hospitality group that calls itself “not your average hotel group”. Hamak has curated an array of activities that will help guests discover the area in a fun way, such as food tours, cookery classes, etc. mojiganga workshops. During my stay, I made sure to take advantage of all the workshops. The mojiganga experience, in which I was able to make papier mache toys with the one family who still teaches the craft of San Miguel Allende, was my favorite. I also had the opportunity to take a cooking course where I shopped with Noia’s chef and we cooked together. 

    The spa is situated next to a gym that has all the necessary equipment.

    Numu Spa has a relaxing room, a sauna with red lights, and many treatments, including deep tissue massages and body wraps. Like the hotel philosophy, the treatments at Numu Spa are inspired from the surrounding area. Treatments often include botanicals, such as aloe, passionfruit and starfruit extracts. After my flight I chose to have a massage. My masseuse was extremely thorough in identifying the specific pain points. 

    Offers Family Friendly

    Numu welcomes pets and has an on-site hotel dog. Pancho, a Bernese Mountain Dog who is friendly and usually napping near the front desk. Pancho is available for guests to walk at any time. If you tell the hotel that you are arriving with small children, you will receive a miniature version of Pancho and a letter “paw-written”. 

    On request, cribs can be provided for free and childcare services are available at an additional cost.

    Numu has one accessible room, which features two queen-sized beds, a roll in shower and a view of the garden. The room also has accessible features like emergency strobes, as well as a lower peephole or door latch.

    The hotel is 53 miles from the Querétaro Intercontinental Airport (QRO) and 58 miles from the more popular Guanajuato International Airport (BJX). Numu is about an hour-and-a-half drive from both airports. Numu provides complimentary valet service for those who choose to rent a vehicle rather than hire a transfer. 

    San Miguel Allende is easily accessible on foot, despite its hills and cobblestones. Nearly all major attractions can be reached within 10 minutes of arriving at the hotel.
