- The Veranda house on Nantucket in Massachusetts is set to reopen after a major renovation on April 1.
- The hotel has undergone a faithful reconstruction, but it now offers new amenities such as ADA-compliant accommodations.
- Veranda House’s outdoor spaces are also being restored, with an English country style garden and Adirondack chair abundance.
The Veranda House will reopen in April after a massive remodel. In 2022 the hotel caught on fire and caused damage of $12 million. Owners were forced to tear down what was left.
Veranda House is located on Nantucket’s edge, just blocks away from the historic district. It’s one of the most famous hotels in this New England resort. Built in 1684 as a private residence, the property is known for its distinct federal-style façade and large wraparound veranda.
The Historic District Commission provided advice on the property’s reconstruction, ensuring that the original details of each room were accurately recreated. The Veranda House has maintained its size, scale and architectural signatures, but it now boasts updated ADA compliant rooms and public spaces, along with new and improved amenities.
Like the old Veranda House the new property offers 19 rooms ranging from the Petite Queen all the way up to the Grand Harborview King which features a fireplace as well as a private terrace with views of waterfront. But, no matter what room category they pick, guests can expect calming, coastal-inspired design, plush beds with down pillows, updated bathrooms with Carrara marble countertops, walk-in showers, Malin & Goetz toiletries, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a continental breakfast of pastries, fresh fruit, and local eggs.
Longtime fans may be pleased to learn that sections of the historic building were preserved in the new construction—specifically, parts of the original veranda.
“It’s impossible to talk about Veranda House without highlighting the verandas and their spectacular views of Nantucket Harbor—they are the property’s namesake, after all,” Ralph Izzi, vice president of marketing for TPG Hotels & Resorts, the hospitality company behind Veranda House, said. “As part the renovation, TPG Hotels & Resorts carefully preserved pieces from the original hand-crafted iron railings in order to recreate them to match the original. historic design.”

Veranda House has also recently updated its outdoor spaces. The garden is a traditional English style, complete with Adirondacks chairs. If you are bringing Fido, the hotel’s VIP (Very important Pet) program has been relaunched. It includes perks such as a Nantucket Pet-Friendly Activity Guide, a complimentary toy for your dog, and even dog walks.
In a few months, the team will be reopening the Veranda House as a sign of the town’s resilience.
Izzi Hehir and Izzi said in a joint press release that “bringing it back, while honoring its historical roots, has been incredibly significant. Not only for us but for everyone else as well.” “It is a reflection on Nantucket’s resilient and timeless appeal. We’re excited to welcome both locals as well as travelers to experience this unique place.”
