    • For the third consecutive year, the Myrtle Beach/Wilmington region in the Carolinas topped Pods’ Enterprises’ survey on where people were relocating.
    • Affordability and proximity to nature continue to draw out-of-state residents to the coastal region.
    • The report found that most Americans are moving to the Southeast, with Ocala, Florida, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina being among the most popular destinations.

Data from the Census Bureau shows that Americans move less every year. According to their data, 12.6 percent of Americans plan to relocate in 2022. This is down from 12.8% in 2021, and significantly lower than 16.8 percent in 2006. U.S. Census Bureau. But almost a quarter of those moving make their move count by going to a new state. It seems that everyone is moving to the southeast this year.

Today, Pods EnterprisesThe fifth annual Moving Trends Report from, a moving company and storage provider, shows the U.S. cities that have the most moves in and out. The company analyzed the internal numbers of long-distance movers between January 2020 and March 2025. The No. The No.

The report said that the Myrtle Beach-Wilmington area was at the top of the list for a third time in a row, suggesting people are becoming more open to the idea of moving where they vacation. “Living along the southeastern coast checks off boxes, such as affordability and friendliness. It also offers access to nature. But it comes with some risks during hurricane season.”

In fact, the company found that states in the Southeast continue to be top draws for movers, with Ocala, Florida, coming in second, followed by Raleigh, North Carolina, and Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, in third and fourth.

According to the firm, the average distance travelled by customers of the long-distance Pods was almost 1,300 miles. Almost 92 percent long-distance moves took place out-of state.

“Our fifth annual Moving Trends Report underscores the major trends that have shaped Americans’ moving patterns and preferences over the past few years—an assumed desire for warmer climates, lower costs of living, and a greater focus on balance and quality of life,” Rich Schwartz, the senior vice president of corporate operations at Pods, shared. He continued, “while the Southeast dominates the top of this list, we’re seeing areas in the South make big moves, such as Dallas-Fort Worth at No. 5), making big moves.”

Where are people moving to? Southern California is once again the leader in the move-out statistics.

Schwartz said that the Northeast and West Coast have seen a steady rise in people moving away, due to factors such as high housing costs, overcrowding or rising insurance rates. As long as the housing market is tight and economic uncertainty continues, we expect a migration to more affordable markets across the country.

Pods also noted that, even though the Midwest didn’t crack the top 10, there has been a “notable increase” in the number of people moving to the Midwest compared to last year. It makes sense when you consider that Midwest cities and town are often also at the top. best places to live lists.
