“Rise & shine, get your boards ready.” It was the mantra I followed every morning during my stay at Puerto Escondido. Nestled just steps away from one of the most stunning beaches in town, I was able to enjoy the early morning swells of the serene Bahía known as Playa Carrizalillo.

I was a Mexican American traveling in search of an authentic local experience. Born in Mexico City Now based in New YorkI’ve always felt the urge to explore lesser-known parts of the country where my roots are. After hearing about this town from friends and family for many years, I wanted to see it myself and form my own opinion. Puerto Escondido exceeded my expectations. It was the perfect retreat from city life and offered me a much needed reset.

I started my trip in Zicatela, where I stayed with friends over the weekend. After that, my trip moved to my Airbnb Rinconada is a great place to explore a new area and gain a little independence. When I searched for Airbnb listings at first, I focused on areas near La Punta as I had heard that this is where the best restaurants, bars and beaches are located. But after arriving and getting a better feel for the town, I expanded my search—and I’m so glad I did.

The Airbnb provided everything I wanted: strong WiFI, a work space, and a private poolHot water is not always guaranteed! The apartment was spacious and had a living room with plenty of space. I could easily walk to Playa Carrizalillo where I would surf and swim every day. Bonus: The reviews were excellent, and its availability was perfect for my schedule.

    Puerto Escondido loft

Driving up the marine-life-named street, I was immediately struck by the calm vibe—low colonial-style buildings painted in kind colors that swept any worries away. The street was only two blocks away from the vibrant Boulevard Benito Juarez. It felt safe and had a lot of character. I felt like a local as I entered the apartment.

Check-in was seamless, and the house matched the listing perfectly—white exterior, distinctive red gate, and easy-to-follow instructions. The penthouse loft comfortably accommodated two guests. The loft is located on the third level, and is accessible by two regular stairs and one spiral staircase. This may be difficult for some people to manage, especially when they’re carrying luggage. luggage. The spiral staircase is a great feature of the apartment once you get past the initial climb. The open-plan loft features a fully equipped kitchen, an island with a dining table for six people, an L shaped couch and a desk that can be used remotely. It felt like a home—cozy, but spacious enough to feel like a true living space, not just a place to crash. The large windows let in plenty of natural light. Sunsets were especially beautiful with the views of the ocean and the streets below.

The location of this Airbnb is what made it so special. The location of this Airbnb was perfect. A stone’s throw away from the beach and only a short walk to the centre of town. I settled into a routine that was perfect: early morning surf sessions, meetings, midday walks to get food, and productive workdays followed by golden hour explorations.
