Marriott has begun construction on the first hotel in Winooski that will be 100% electric and emit zero emissions. It is a 115-room facility.
The Sugar House Hotel, which is set to open in the year 2026, will run entirely on electricity. This energy will come from solar panels installed on rooftops and other renewable sources.
Doug Nedde from Nedde Real Estate said, “There is no fossil fuel in the building.” Doug Nedde is the hotel’s owner and principal investor. “This hotel is going to be entirely powered by electricity and will incorporate the most sophisticated geothermal systems that we’ve used.”
Marriot’s goal is to reduce its emissions to almost zero by 2050.
Amenities include a rooftop restaurant, event space, a general merchandise store with Vermont-made goods, and rooms themed to traditional sugarhouses from the region.
