Mandarin Oriental The company is pleased to announce that it will be expanding its presence in Malaysia, with the upcoming rebranding an exceptional resort on the south-eastern coastline of the country at Desaru Coast. This property will be rebranded as Mandarin Oriental Desaru Coast in January 2026 after it joins the Mandarin Oriental portfolio. It is located within 128 acres and opens out onto a stretch of pristine beach with a view of the South China Sea.
The Desaru Coast has a beautiful, unspoiled coast with a warm climate all year round. The destination is a unique blend of ecological diversity and coastal serenity. It has nearly 17 kilometers of beachfront. The property is close to Mandarin Oriental’s established hotels in Kuala Lumpur & Singapore. It reflects the Group’s commitment to expanding its presence across resort destinations throughout the region.
Mandarin Oriental and Desaru Coast consolidated their partnership by signing a hotel management contract on site at the resort. Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi who was present at the signing ceremony said: “Mandarin Oriental is responsible for some of the best-known properties and destinations around the globe. Their choice of this property as their second in Malaysia is a testament of Johor’s enormous potential.” It is clear that Mandarin Oriental will be the brand leading the reintroduction and relaunch of this iconic resort as we prepare to host Visit Johor Year, 2026.
The resort is the final project completed by Kerry Hill. He designed it with his award winning firm Kerry Hill Architects. This design embodies tropical-modernism and has created harmony between built space and surrounding landscape.
Each of the 44 villas and suites at the resort offers privacy and generous space. Many have private gardens or plunge pools, while others offer direct views of either rainforests or sea. The resort offers five dining venues that combine global cuisines and local flavours. These include a stylish beach bar, a relaxed lounge with views of the coastline, as well as a relaxed lounge with views.
