This video diary, which I posted to LinkedIn, explores two pioneers of hospitality, Selina and Sonder. Both have taught us about the pitfalls of blending technology, design, community, and other factors. Both have failed, with the most recent being Sonder, whose founding director Francis Davidson has just left the company. Selina barely exists.
In this post, I explore what they each did brilliantly and where they stumbled. I also discuss how future travel brands could build on the trailblazing work of these pioneering brands with stronger economics. Listen to this podcast and learn why these two “S’ brands deserve more than just a footnote.
