Josh Duhamel, who may look like a Hollywood actor, is actually most comfortable living in the middle nowhere, with as little special amenities as possible. This lifestyle sounds wonderful, and it is a nice escape from the everyday grind. We think it’s great enough to try.

Duhamel, the star of Netflix’s “Ransom Canyon,” met with us in mid-April. Country Living to give a glimpse of his all-new life, far away from the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles, trading it for the woods in Minnesota—a place he calls his “doomsday cabin.” Duhamel has chosen a destination that is both convenient and fitting. It’s located about 90 minutes north of Fargo, North Dakota. Fargo is itself about four-hours from Duhamel’s hometown. Minot, North Dakota.

Duhamel also shared that “part of the reason why I built my house out in Minnesota deep in the forest is because it’s far from everything.” Parade “It’s a long way from the nearest store.” The nearest store is located 40 miles away. Once we get there, it’s really about everybody taking care of each other—making memories, spending time with family and friends. It’s a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with the basics. All these distractions aren’t consuming you. “When you’re outside, it’s all about having fun. Make sure everyone’s warm and that they have food and water.”

Duhamel, who did not share the exact location of this magical cabin in a wood, did mention that “it’s basically an Terry Redlin drawing.” This could be the case for many areas of Minnesota.

According to the state Department of Natural ResourcesYou can enjoy the same off-the -grid experience as Duhamel by staying in one of 46 campgrounds. Each campsite has 1,000 sites. There’s still more. There are also thousands of miles of trails.

You can still enjoy a little luxury while being off-grid. At Sweetbriar Ridge Pine City offers travelers the chance to stay in stunning geodesic domes that are clear and allow Mother Nature shine through. The domes also include creature comforts, such as cozy beds and kitchens. At North Shore Camping Co. Beaver Bay offers more traditional tents but with an added bonus: a real king bed. This is just the beginning. There are plenty of other glamping spots. punctuating the state.

You can also find a vacation spot to enjoy a quick getaway in Minnesota.
