You can now enjoy kayaking and camping on the water. AntarcticaThis could be your chance.
HX ExpeditionsThe world’s oldest cruise line, announced recently that it will expand its capacity by launching the most diverse camping and kayaking program in Antarctica. HX Expeditions plans to double the number of camping sites and increase kayaking capacity in Antarctica by 188 percent starting October 2025. This will allow more people to enjoy Antarctica while being environmentally friendly.
Solo travelers will be able to access camping and kayaking, without the need for a partner. HX Expeditions will introduce new solo inflatable “Discovery Kayaks”, which can be used for self guided paddling without a language requirement. They also have new lightweight “Bivvy Bags”, made in Scandinavia, for camping. Activities include kayaking in two different styles, camping in two different ways, snowshoeing and polar plunges, as well as extended hikes.
We’re bringing more adventurers to the polar regions than ever with our expanded kayaking, camping, and flexibility. Karin Strand (VP of Expeditions Development) said this in a T+L-reported statement. “It’s all about making these unforgettable moments available to everyone aboard, in small intimate groups, with responsible leaders,” she added. We’re here for you to write your own Antarctic tale, whether you’re paddling past icebergs in your kayak or sleeping beneath the stars. Importantly, all experiences have been designed to be in harmony and in strict compliance with environmental regulations that govern the human activity in Antarctica.
HX Expeditions is a company with over 20 years’ experience in Antarctica travel. It was also a founding member IAATO – a membership organization which advocates for responsible and safe private sector travel to Antarctica.
Strand stated that “Experiencing Antarctica comes with responsibility.” Every step we take is guided my the principles of sustainable travel. We adhere to the IAATO guidelines, which ensure that our presence does not leave a trace. This includes minimising impact and respecting wildlife.
The Expedition Team aboard will manage bookings for kayaking and camp sites in 2025/2026, providing flexibility based upon guest preferences and the weather. Bookings will now be done on a first come, first served basis. The previous lottery system has been retired. If an activity is cancelled, the company can either reschedule it or give a refund.
