San Antonio broke Cash App in its eagerness for help, said one organizer, as more than 1,000 locals braved the heat to attend a run in downtown Wednesday night. They had donation bags and shirts with the slogan “San Antonio Loves Kerr County” on them. The charity run raised over $14,000 for Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, and several trucks were filled with supplies.
Kerr County is a Hill Country region with 56,000 residents that was devastated by flash floods during Independence Day. Kerrville is one of the many towns in Texas. ComfortKerr County, which includes Ingram and, has been a popular escape for Texans looking to get away from the busy cities of Austin and San Antonio as well as Houston and Dallas. Activities like tubing down the Guadalupe River are popular.
In the early morning hours of the 4th of July, what many thought was a peaceful and communal river became a source of destruction.
Kerr County was hit by deadly flash floods before dawn on the 4th of July, as the Guadalupe River flooded up to 35ft. per USGS—more than double its flood stage—killing more than 100 people, including dozens of children, according to county officials. Camp Mystic – a summer camp that has been around for many years – was among the hardest hit areas. As of July 10, at least 161 people were still missing. Texas-based groups have donated money, hot meals, and boots on the ground. H-E-B – the Lone Star State’s largest grocery retailer founded in Kerrville 1905 – donated $5,000,000 to their hometown in addition other forms of support.
Howard Butt III (CEO of H-E-B) said that “the Butt Family has proudly lived in Kerrville, Texas, for over 120 years.” “Our hearts are broken for the children and families who suffered great loss in Texas as a result these floods.”
James Avery was founded in Kerrville, Texas in 1954. It is also donating 100% of the sales proceeds from its “Deep in the Heart of Texas” Charm to flood relief efforts till Aug. 4
